Are you looking to make some extra money? Here are 10 ways to make extra cash in 2024.

There are lots of reasons you might need to make some extra money. With the cost of living crisis, it could just be needed to make ends meet. You might want some extra cash to put away towards a summer holiday or for Christmas.

10 Ways To Make Extra Cash In 2024

1. Sign Up To Survey Websites

Surveys are never going to make you rich, however, they can be a nice little way boost to your income when you’ve not a got much else going on and you can keep them ticking along in the background.

Here are a few of the survey websites I use.

  1. Swagbucks
  2. Prolific Academic
  3. Branded Surveys
  4. One Poll
  5. Viewsbank
  6. YouGov
  7. InboxPounds

I have written full reviews on Prolific Academic and One Poll which you can find below.

2. Make Money with Paid Market research

Market research can be a great way to make money.

While many people may think of Market Research as being focus groups there are plenty of opportunities where you can do telephone interviews or website testing from home.

My favourite companies to do market research with are People for Research, Askable, and Responent.io

I recently worked with People for Research on a post where I explained all the different opportunities they have to make money. To sign up, take a look at this post.

People for research will contact you via email with relevant opportunities based on your profile and demographics. You can also register your interest in different projects on their website.

Respondent.io I have done a couple of website testing jobs with. These were easy, took around 40 minutes and paid $20 which is around £15.

They also have lots of telephone interview jobs which pay well. It’s worth taking a look through and seeing if you’re eligible for any of them.

3. Make Money Freelancing In 2024

If you have any type of digital skill, you could be making money from it as a freelancer.

Whether it’s writing, logo design, or even creating printables, there could well be a market for selling your skills.

Websites like Fiverr and People per hour are the best places to offer these services and see what others are offering to give you some ideas.

4. Start A Blog

If starting a blog is something you’ve always wanted to do, now is the time to start.

While it can feel slow going at first, learning how to build a website now could be a great way to set yourself up for making more money in the future.

I am going to be honest and say it’s unlikely you’ll make money from your blog straight away, but starting now could lead to all sorts of paid work in the future.

For blog hosting, I recommend Lyrical Host, and you’ll get 10% off your hosting package with my code SOMERSET10.

5. Take Advantage Of Cashback

Cashback is essentially free money.

Cashback will allow you to make money back on items you purchase.

Some cashback sites, such as as TopCashback and Quidco require you to go through their site before purchasing to get the reward.

For others, such as Cheddar and Airtime Rewards, you can link your debit card and cashback is awarded automatically.

It’s also worth checking whether your bank offers cashback. Often they do (I’m with Monzo for my main bank account and they do!) but you have to activate the cashback before it’ll apply to your purchases going forward.

I’ve listed some of my best cashback posts below:

6. Sell Your Old Stuff

Selling your old stuff is a great way to make some extra cash and there are lots of ways you can do this.

My top pick for selling online is Vinted – uploading your items is easy and there are no fees for sellers.

However, eBay has recently tried to match Vinted’s popularity by offering no fees when selling old clothes.

Other options for selling your old stuff could include doing a car boot sale, Mum 2 Mum Markets (perfect if you have lots of kids clothing and toys to get rid of!) or selling via Facebook Marketplace.

7. Get Paid To Play Mobile Games

If you enjoy spending time playing mobile games, why not get paid to do it?

While this is never going to make you rich, if it’s something you’d be doing anyway you might as well earn some cash for your efforts.

There are two main sites I use for paid mobile games: Tester Buddy (iOS only) and Swagbucks via the Play section. You can also get paid to play games through InboxPounds.

Usually, you need to be playing these games for the first time and make sure that your settings allow your gameplay to be tracked.

Payouts can vary between these three providers, so it’s worth checking which is offering the most money before getting started with a new game.

8. Matched Betting

Matched betting is a great way to make money from home. Even better it’s tax-free and you only need around £60 to get started.

While it’s not something I’ve covered much on the blog once you’ve got the hang of the basics, it is an easy and consistent way to make extra cash.

Matched Betting is not gambling.

It’s a way of taking advantage of bookmakers ‘free bet’ offers for profit.

The process can seem quite complicated at first, as there are a few different stages you need to go through.

Personally, I’d advise watching some Matched Betting YouTube videos so you can begin to understand the process before taking the plunge.

The step next is to sign up for odds-matching software such as Outplayed or Odds Monkey.

This software allows you to calculate bets quickly and easily.

While it is a paid service, the amount you make will far outweigh the cost of the monthly subscription. Many sites also offer a free trial so you can do your first bet for free to see if it’s for you or not.

  • Matched Betting is NOT gambling.
  • Anything you earn from Matched Betting will be tax-free as it’s considered profit from gambling
  • If you follow the instructions accurately you won’t lose money. However, sometimes human error does come into play and you could make a mistake that will cost you money. Follow the steps carefully and take your time.
  •  Open a separate bank account for matched betting, this helps keep everything separate and means the money doesn’t mix with your everyday money.
  • It’s worth building a ‘bank’ of money to match bet with long term for the best profits. This can be done with as little as £60 to start with – just keep rolling over your profits until you have a pot of £500 or £1000
  • Matched Betting is not considered risk-free because there is a chance of human error.
  • DO NOT try matched betting if you have ever had a gambling problem.

9. Give Yourself A Mini Money Makeover

If you have some spare time, you could give yourself a mini money makeover. This could easily net you some extra cash each month by ensuring you’re getting the best deals and flagging up any unused direct debits.

  • Check your bank account for unusual transactions and unused direct debits.
  • If you pay a monthly fee for a bank account make sure you’re using all of the benefits
  • Switch energy suppliers.
  • Try haggling with suppliers such as Sky or Virgin Media
  • If you already use survey and cashback websites, check these for money you could cash out now.

For this post, I'm not going to get into the nitty-gritty of Coronavirus or what people should or shouldn't be doing. I'm simply going to offer some ideas for making money at home if you are choosing self isolation.

10. Take Advantage Of Sign Up Offers

What is a free sign-up offer?

Well, often companies want you to sign up and try their products or services and so will offer you a cash reward for doing so.

For example, if you’re looking to switch bank accounts, you could net yourself as much as £200 if you pick a bank with a decent switching bonus. (See Martin Lewis’s Guide here)

There are usually T&Cs so be sure to read these before going ahead, however, I have made over £300 this year by doing this.

There are also incentives for opening new accounts, rather than switching, eg. you can get £5 for opening an account with Monzo.

These offers are often short lived so if you see an offer that works for you, it’s worth taking advantage of it as soon as possible.
