Want to reduce the cost of your Sky bill but don’t want to spend ages being passed from pillar to post on the phone? Want to learn how to get a better deal from Sky from the comfort of your sofa? Try this trick which takes just a few simple clicks. . .
How Can I Get A Better Deal With Sky?
The thing about saving money is, while everyone wants to do it, not everyone can be bothered. Sometimes the best deals can take a little bit of effort to find. Research is key.
Some people just don’t have the time, nor the inclination. But we all still like to moan about how much everything costs. So sometimes, when it comes to saving money simply is best. Take a look at this post which is all about haggling with Sky.
Most people would just be happy contacting someone who can install TV aerials in Somerset, and watch whatever is accessible via terrestrial television.
Haggling with Sky – What You Need To Do
That is why without a doubt, having Sky TV is a luxury. It is not without a doubt, having Sky TV is a luxury.
It is not something that anyone actually physically needs, but many of us enjoy having a more extensive range of channels to watch.
Many of us also like to moan about how much it is costing us each month, but can’t find the time to ring up and ask for a better deal.
How To Haggle With Sky and Reduce Your Sky Bill
There are stories of people that have had a lot of success phoning and asking for a discount. Others, not so much. I think it really depends on who you speak to and how pushy you are when you haggle with Sky over the phone.
You can also end up getting passed around from one department to another which is a pain and pretty time-consuming too, especially if you’ve already been on hold for an hour.
Instead, I used this trick.
Whether this works or not will depend on your current contract and how much you pay, but it’s so quick and easy that it’s definitely worth a try if you’re looking to haggle with Sky and bring down the cost of your monthly bill.
First Try This: Haggle with SKY with a few simple clicks
Step 1. Log into your Sky account on their website.
Step 2. Go to help and Support and Click ‘Cancel Your Sky’
Step 3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says ‘still looking to cancel’ and click Sky TV
Step 4. Click ‘I’m worried about the cost’ from the options listed
Step 5. An offer for money off your monthly bill should appear on the Screen. This will depend on your package and where you are in your contract. I was offered 10% off a month but have heard of others being offered 20%.
Click through and agree to the newly updated contract. Make sure this is 100% what you want before and make sure you read the T&Cs before proceeding.
And it’s as easy as that. Money off your Sky bill with a few simple clicks.
As stated above this may not work for everyone and will depend on your contract and package, but it’s always worth a try.
If you do have the time using the Live Chat function may prove more lucrative. There is usually a couple of hours wait, but I just had it in the background while I was doing some other work.
I was recently able to get my bill down to £45 a month from around £70 using this although a family member tried and wasn’t offered the same discounts so it is very dependent on your account what they can give you.
So if the 10% offered above isn’t a big enough discount for you this might be another option that doesn’t involve making a phone call.
The Same Also Applies To Mobile Phone Deals
With Sky taking advantage of customers being too lazy to haggle, the same problem occurs with mobile phone deals and pay monthly contracts.
Whilst Sky is known for sneakily putting their prices up, the phone networks are known for not informing you when your contract has come to an end. Instead, you keep on paying the same amount, but that original figure often included the cost of the handset repayments so continuing to pay £40 a month is ludicrous.
You can use the same method above to look at your upgrade or downgrade options via Sky Mobile or your network operator. However, these deals aren’t usually that attractive, instead of negotiating via Live Chat can bring some savings but the biggest savings are made by switching to a SIM only deal and keeping your existing handset.
There are deals out there for as little as £5 a month and we recently moved to a pre-paid 30-day SIM-only plan (found here for £7.50 per month at the time of writing) these deals have no contract tie-ins ins giving more flexibility and no chance of racking up roaming fees when abroad like the O2 debacle.
Have you had any success when trying to haggle with sky or your mobile phone deal?

ooh, smart! I don’t have Sky TV, but I like your thinking. I think Amazon Prime has something similar, where if you try to cancel, they’ll offer you a little off to keep you around.
I wish I’d read this last week! I phoned up for a moan and only got offered £7.50 off a month for 6 months. … now I know what I should be aiming for!!
Oh that’s a shame! Could you possibly try again? Threaten to cancel that usually works!
I have just tried this and the’ still want to cancel’ option is no longer there, instead it gives an option to contact customer services. Worth a try to do that though.
Hi, thanks for commenting. I’ve just tried it from my Sky account and it’s still working using the steps listed above so I don’t know why that didn’t show up for you :S
I found speaking with them on live chat can be good – takes about 45 minutes to go through the steps but worth it for the discount. I recently did this and saved my parents nearly £500 over the next 18 months.
Speaking to them over the phone is the non lazy method, but is so worth it! I got 75% off my package because of a conversation with them. We now pay the remainder of what we were paying off our credit card. ? Your post inspired me to write about my experience with Sky at the beginning of the year; I linked to this post, I hope you don’t mind.
That’s awesome it’s always great to get Sky TV for less!
I couldn’t find the option on my account either. I tried live chat and they offered me 40% off, but I said this was still too expensive, next they offered 60% off, so I told them I still wanted to cancel and they offered me 75% off! Then got them to throw in some extra channels that I didn’t have before too. Took about 30 minutes and we’ll be paying just £5 per month for next 18 months!! Bargain!!
Awesome! I think it’s always worth trying with them – and if it doesn’t work try again the next day speaking with someone else!
some great tips, worth a try
Yup, you can but try! And then try again if you don’t quite get what you want.
