Shopmium Review: Why I Love The Shopmium App

I’ve been using the Shopmium app for over three years now and during this time I’ve had loads of free and discounted products. The majority of these have been food items but I’ve had some household bits, such as kitchen rolls, too.

Overall I really like using Shopmium and have lots of lovely freebies and big discounts from using it. This is my honest Shopmium Review.

Shopmium Review: Why I Love The Shopmium App

Saving money on the weekly shop is something I love to do and I think one of the easiest places to reduce your monthly outgoings.

From using coupons to bagging the best discounts when doing an online grocery shop, I’ll do anything I can to reduce the cost of my weekly groceries shop.

I’ve been using Shopmium for quite a while now (over six years in fact!) so I thought it was time for a dedicated blog post explaining how works and what type of savings you can expect to make when using it.

First of all, though, I thought I’d share with you a few of the reasons I love the Shopmium App.

Easy To Use – The Shopmium app is easy to use and very user-friendly.

Plenty of freebies – Do you love a good freebie? Me too and there are plenty of offers for freebies on the Shopmium app.

Regular Rewards – Shopmium offers regular reward events – eg submit four cashback claims and get £2 added to your account.

Barcode Scanner – This feature allows you to check in-store that you’re buying the correct product.

Generous Referral Scheme – If your friends and family would like to sign up to Shopmium they can get a free product (usually Pringles or Chocolate) and you’ll get a £3 referral bonus added to your account.

Instore and Online – Many offers can be claimed both when shopping in-store and online.

Since I’ve been using the Shopmium app I don’t think I’ve had any cashback claims rejected and they are usually processed pretty quickly.

The only small niggle I have is that sometimes it can feel like all of the best freebie offers are for Tesco and I don’t have a Tesco in my town!

Note: Payouts from Shopmium have recently changed. You now have to request cashback once your balance hits £10 with no option to get your money sooner.

This is a disappointing update which I am hoping Shopmium will reconsider as the instant payouts were one of the things I loved about using the app.

Is Shopmium Legit?

Yes, Shopmium is completely legit. I’ve been using it for over six years now and have never had any issues with it. It’s also used by lots of my friends and family and other bloggers.

How Does The Shopmium App work?

Here’s how the Shopmium App works.

Download the Shopmium App from the App Store and get signed up using your email address. If you’re a new customer, you can use my code KMFUKCCQ to get a freebie (usually pringles or chocolate) when you join via the app.
Next, Take a look through the offers before you go shopping. You can view all the offers or choose a specific supermarket. There is usually a combination of freebies and money-off offers.
If you’re unsure if you’ve found the right product while shopping instore, the Shopmium app lets you scan an item’s barcode and will tell you whether there’s an offer for it on the app or not.
Once you’ve bought your items you’ll need to scan their barcodes in the Shopmium app (click the piggy bank icon!) and then upload a photograph of your receipt. Always remember to get a receipt if you’re using self-checkout as they don’t always automatically give them out.
The full cost or discount on the items you’ve bought will be added to your balance. When it hit £10 you can request a cashout.
If you have any referral credits these will be used to cover the cost of items that weren’t free. For example, if you have £3 in referral credits and the item is offered half price at £1 on the Shopmium app, you’ll get the item for free and you’d have £2 in credit left.

Most offers on the Shopmium app can be redeemed at any supermarket but some are for specific retailers, so be sure to double-check this before you buy anything.

While you are technically getting free products, this is in the form of cashback and doesn’t apply when you pay at the till.

However, there is nothing to stop you from using other coupons and discounts for your shop.

I usually make a note of the things I want to buy while I’m doing my usual shopping or occasionally if there are a lot of good offers on the Shopmium app I’ll do a targeted coupon shop where I’ll pop to the supermarket to specifically grab things that are on offer.

Yes, Shopmium is completely free to use, there are no fees or hidden charges.

Shopmium Alternatives: Apps Like Shopmium

If you love the Shopmium app and want more of the same, there are some other apps you can try using.

The main two are CheckoutSmart and GreenJinn both of which work in a very similar way to Shopmium.

Is The Shopmium App Worth The Effort?

As someone that loves a freebie, for me, the Shopmium app is worth the effort.

The products on offer are pretty varied but there will be brands you’ve heard of such as Walkers, Magnum, Lynx and Nestle.

Uploading receipts only takes a couple of minutes and I love getting discounts on products I’d buy anyway such as cheese and ice cream.

How Does Shopmium Compare To Other Cashback Apps?

I think Shopmium has upped their game in the last couple of years with more varied and interesting offers whereas other cashback apps have gone completely or seem to have far fewer offers than in previous years.

Shopmium Vs CheckoutSmart

With Shopmium, there is no fee for withdrawing your cashback whereas CheckoutSmart charges 5% for withdrawals under £20.

CheckoutSmart also doesn’t have a referral scheme although they do offer regular competitions to win £10 for uploading your receipts.

Shopmium Vs Greenjinn

Just like Shopmium, Greenjinn does seem to have expanded its offerings in recent months and now has offers for a wide range of supermarkets and other high street stores such as Superdrug and Boots.

Overall I would say Shopmium has more offers but it’s still worth always checking all supermarket apps before you shop.

Can You Get Free Products On The Shopmium App?

Yes, you can get free products on the Shopmium app, although it’s worth remembering this is in the form of cashback after you’ve purchased items rather than products being free when it comes to paying in the supermarket.

PayPal refunds are typically processed within three working days, whereas bank transfers take up to seven working days so you don’t get your money back immediately.

While I do grab offers when I can I certainly don’t take advantage of every single offer available, especially those exclusive to Tesco as I don’t have one near me.

If there are products I don’t think I’ll use but are still very cheap or completely free, I’ll pick them up to donate to the local food bank.

How Do Shopmium Rewards Work?

The Shopmium app has its own rewards club – it’s fairly simple in so far as the more you use the app and the more offers you redeem the more levels you move up.

The current levels are silver and gold and you need to make a cashback claim every 30 days to stay in that level.

When you move up a level there are perks such as cashback being paid more quickly and the customer service team prioritizing any queries you may have. You also get freebies on your birthday and early access to certain offers.

Can You Make Money From Shopmium?

I would say that Shopmium can save you money rather than make you money.

However, thanks to the referral scheme and regular reward offers in the app, it does give lots of opportunities to earn free products and if that ends up being things you would be any way that is definitely extra money in your pocket.

Great review on Shopmium. I personally have found them useful. I hope one day you can do a review on Referral Codes. They allow you to share codes to anyone from one place and I have found them pretty useful for my money saving situation.
