Saving money on the weekly shop is something lots of people wish they were better at. However, with a few simple tips and tricks and can be really easy to make big savings.
Two of the biggest ways I save money on food are by buying
yellow stickers and using
cashback apps to get free and discounted food. By combing these two ways of saving, I can make super cheap meals for my family.
Combining Yellow Stickers & Cashback Apps
My best my yellow sticker bargains recently have included lamb chops at 16p for two, rib-eye steak for 26p and braising steak for 18p. Reducing the cost of meat means each meal I make costs significantly less – especially as meat is often the most expensive part.
I also get lots of yellow sticker bread and bakery items. While they don’t make a whole meal, they can be added to a meal to make it bulkier, such as making stuffing or a breadcrumb topping.
I also tend to stick to the basics range for things like rice and pasta and make the majority of my sauces at home unless I can get them very cheap.
Cashback apps are great for taking these savings even further. Some of the most common items on these apps are sauces frozen products like chips and even meat products like sausages and ready-made curry.

Combing Yellow Stickers & Cashback
A brilliant example of this is a
slow cooker beef curry I made using reduced section braising steak and a curry sauce which cost 10p from a coupon offer one the
cashback app Checkoutsmart. The beef curry worked out at 47p each for two adults with enough extra to feed our two-year-old daughter and some leftovers for the following day’s lunch as my portion was just too big.
Below is a breakdown of how much each item cost:
Rice 25p
Braising Steak 18p (Reduced Section)
Naan bread 20p (Reduced Section)
Curry Sauce 10p (Checkoutsmart offer)
Passata 16p (half a carton)
Tumeric 5p
