Awesome Free Food Apps To Save You Cash

You may have heard the saying ‘There’s no such thing as a free lunch’. Well, technically there is. These awesome free food apps provide various items for free regularly.
Everything from chocolate, ice cream and coffee to free booze, free sausages and free snacks for on-the-go.
You just have to know where to look!
Saving money in the weekly shop is one of my favourite ways to reduce spending, so the more food I can for free the better.
Combining this with coupons and buying pretty much everything I can find from the reduced section has allowed me to massively reduce the amount I spend on food each week.
Awesome Free Food Apps
I’ve split these free food apps into two sections – one for apps where the food is completely free, no purchase needed.
The second is for apps that have lots of freebies but you do have to buy them first – you then upload a picture of your receipt and you’ll get a refund – so you do get your money back but sometimes it might take a day or two to hit your bank account or PayPal.
I’ve also included a couple of apps that offer more than just free food; they offer freebies in the form of craft items or things like Christmas cards.
I’ve also included lists of the various items I’ve got for free from each app and included pictures where I can.
It’s worth remembering the offers on these free food apps do change from day to day and everything I’ve mentioned here are past offers.
Future offers, while I hope there will be plenty of them, may not be the same.
Free Food Apps – No Spend Required
1. Olio Free Food App
Olio is a free community food-sharing app – that allows people to upload pictures of food they no longer want or need and encourages them to share easily with those around them.
As an example, if you like growing your vegetables you may have a surplus and using this app would be a great way to share your crop around with those who need it.
Sometimes we might try things once and not like them or we could be going away and want to give away perishables like salad items or fresh milk that will go off before we return.
As I live in a rural-ish area I didn’t find this app worked for me as there were very few people in my area using it.
However, I do think it would work better in much more densely populated areas such as large cities.
2. 02 Priority App
O2 Priority (previously O2 Priority Moments) is an app for customers using the O2 mobile phone network.
It is great for freebies and treats and I usually manage to get something from it each week – especially as they often have recurring offers, such as free hot drinks from Caffe Nero and free food (such as a sausage roll) from Greggs.
To get the free items, you simply show a code on the app at the till when paying and the item is free.
If O2 isn’t your current mobile provider you can get a free simcard to use here.
Products I’ve had for free: Thorntons Ice Cream, Thorntons Easter Egg, Chocolate Coins, Mini Eggs, Fruit Pastilles, Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate, Creme egg, Sausage Roll
3. M&S Sparks App
There are occasional freebies when you’re signed up to the Sparks app including free Percy Pigs and bakery items. These are completely free – just scan your app at the checkout and there’s nothing to pay.
In the last few years, the Sparks app has had a particularly good countdown to Christmas Advent event. Open the app each day for the first twelve days of December for some excellent freebies including sweets, chocolate, biscuits and even bottles of Gin.
Hopefully, M&S will be running the event again this year!
And don’t forget, whenever you scan your sparks card in an M&S food hall there is always the chance to win your entire shop for free.
Free Food Apps – Cashback (Purchase Required – Money Refunded)
These are all apps that offer lots of free food but you do need to buy first and then request a refund.
I’ve been lucky enough never to have one rejected, occasionally a better picture of the receipt has been needed but that’s fine as I always keep them until I get my money.
4. Shopmium – Free Food App
Shopmium is currently my favourite free food shopping app and if you can use my referral code KMFUKCCQ when you sign up you’ll get a free bag of chocolate buttons (registration must be via the app and not via the website).
Payment is via PayPal once your balance has reached £10. You’ll need to request your cashback once your balance meets the threshold.
When you open the app you’ll see a list of offers and when you tap on these you’ll get more details such as where to buy them from and how much they are – discounts vary from totally free to £1 or £2 off the RRP.
You can scan the you’re buying products in-store to make sure you are purchasing the correct thing which is handy and helps avoid errors.
You do need to scan the barcode of each item that you are claiming for so remember not to put your shopping away until you do this.
You’ll also need to upload a photograph of your receipt.

4. CheckoutSmart
CheckoutSmart is another one of my favourites when it comes to free shopping apps as overall it seems to have the most offers and is the easiest to use.
Payment from this app only becomes available when you have £5 in your account for a small fee or is free when you reach £20 or over so it can take a little while to get your money back if you don’t end up redeeming many offers.
The only downside I’ve found is a lot of the best offers will only be available at one supermarket meaning you can end up needing to go several different places if you want to take advantage of all the best offers.

6. TopCashback App
The Topcashback app which is very similar to the two apps I’ve mentioned above.
You can sign up to Topcashback here if you’re not already a member.
Every couple of months they offer a freebie – more often than not it’s a box of chocolates – so this is keeping an eye out for, especially since the last couple have been picking chocolate up to the value of £3 so you can select whatever you like.
There are usually fewer restrictions on where you can buy these items from too.
I also find cashback from this type of transaction pays out much quicker than normal cashback through them. Payment can be requested on the TopCashback website.
Products I’ve had for free: Easter Eggs, Lint Chocolates, Pancake ingredients, and a Pumpkin at Halloween.
7. GreenJinn App
The Greenjinn App offers a range of places to pick up both free and discounted food – including Boots and Holland and Barrett as well as all of the supermarkets.
Products I’ve had for free: Pumpkin, Cake, Kettle Chips, Olives.

Other Ways To Use Free Food Apps
Don’t forget combining offers from all of these apps is possible and because of this, I’ve been able to save hundreds of pounds over a year on my food bill.
These free food apps are also perfect for collecting free food for local food banks and other charities that need it. If there are offers I won’t use or don’t like I’ll still grab them and pop the in my donations bag at home.
I like to grab as many freebies via these free food apps as I can to help with the cost of Christmas. A while ago I was able to make a massive chocolate hamper for just £3 and a lot of the free items available from the O2 Priority app would make excellent free stocking fillers for kids.
