For the last year, I’ve been trying my hardest to only buy second-hand clothes for my daughter. With charity shops closed, I’ve turned to Vinted to buy her some clothes for the warmer months. This post is about my experience of buying kids clothes from Vinted, including finding some £60 Angulus sandals for £12.50!

If you have a little one then you’ll be well aware of how fast they grow. With spring and summer fast approaching I knew I needed to think about getting my little one kitted out with cooler clothes. She has grown a lot in the last year – at 2.5 years all of her clothes are 3-4!

Here are a few reasons I choose to buy second-hand for myself and my daughter:

  • It’s Eco-friendly. Fashion is the worlds second biggest polluter after oil and other fuels.
  • It’s cheaper so I can put money towards other fun things.
  • I can buy better quality clothes and brands I wouldn’t usually be able to afford.
  • It helps other families.
  • Prevents clothes from ending up in the landfill.

Buying Kid’s Clothes From Vinted – My Recent Bargains

With that in mind, I’ve been buying kids clothes from Vinted for her which is an online selling platform and app.

They’ve been advertising on television a lot recently so you may well have heard of them from there. They are fast becoming a popular alternative to eBay as they don’t take a cut of the fees when you sell. There is, however, a small charge when you buy items on Vinted.

Unlike eBay, there is no bidding. All items are the price listed and if you add an item to your favourites list sometimes the seller will then offer a discount.

First of all, I wanted to show you exactly what I got for my daughter from Vinted and how much it cost.

This cost £52.30 including delivery and Vinted fees:
2 x Sandals both BNWT
3 x Swimming costumes
4 x Shorts
14 x T-shirt’s
3 x Long sleeve tees
3 x Leggings
1 x Jumper
1 x Harem pants
1 x Summer playsuit
This will pretty much be her covered for summer as she already has plenty of leggings, I just need to find a couple of nice cardigans to finish things of.
In the past, I’ve not bought big clothing bundles as they often contain lots of tights and dresses which she doesn’t wear. So I feel like I got lucky with these having lots of things she needed and the colours and styles I’d usually choose.
I purchased from five different sellers, which were three different bundles of clothes and the two pairs of shoes were separate purchases.

My Best Vinted Bargain

My absolute best bargain out of all of these is the rose-gold Angulus sandals. They were £12.50 (£16.50 with fees and postage).

At first, I did think it seemed a lot, but after doing some research into the brand, which I’d never heard of before I could see the RRP is usually around £60.

Even in the sales, the price was still up around £45, far more than I’d normally spend on shoes for a toddler who will outgrow them within a few months.

That said, I wanted something sturdy as we do a lot of walking and plan to make the most of our National Trust Passes.

Tips For Buying Kid’s Clothes From Vinted

Vinted is hugely popular at the moment, especially with lots of people who have had big clear out and want to make some extra cash.

1. Customise Your Home Feed

One thing I love about the Vinted app is being able to customize the home feed to only see items and sizes that you’re interested in.

This means you’re not scrolling through loads of things that you’re not likely to buy.

You can also save your searches to come back to later and it tells you how many new items have been added to your search query since you last used the app.

2. Click The Heart To Add Items To Your Favourites List

Another function I love is being able to add items to the favourites list. It makes it easy to compare things you like the look of and I find it helps stop impulse buying too as I know I can easily come back to things later. provided they haven’t sold.

As I mentioned before, often if you favourite an item the seller will offer a discount.

This can help negate the cost of the Vinted Fees of between 3% and 8% plus 30p-80p.

3. Use The Cheapest Postage Option

Postage fees can vary, but the cheapest option is often to collect from your nearest Evri Parcel shop at £2.39.

Or you might be lucky enough to find a new seller where postage fees are zero for their first sale. Items with free postage get snapped up very quickly, so if you find something, buy quickly or might well be gone when you come back to it later.

4. Look At A Sellers Other Items

Vinted it makes it very easy to find a seller’s other items.

If you click an item for a closer look, simply scroll down to see everything else that person has for sale.

Many sellers offer a discount if you buy more than one item and of course, this helps reduce the cost of postage and fees too.

Most people don’t want to pay £2.39 postage and fees for a £1 item, but they’ll happily do so for 5 £1 items.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you create a bundle, it’s not yours until the seller confirms the postage price and you’ve paid.

If they take a while to do this you may find that one or more of the items in your bundle have sold in the meantime and you may need to remake the the bundle minus those items.

5. Offer A Lower Price

Most sellers have the offer button on enabled so you can offer a lower price if you would like to.

The seller can either accept this price or they may make an offer somewhere in between your price and theirs.

You can only make five offers each day, so use them wisely.

6. Checkout The Similar Items Feed

When shopping on Vinted prices can vary hugely, even for the same items.

Take a look at the ‘similar items’ feed and you may find the same item at a much lower price. I’ve found prices can vary by as much as £10 or even £15 for items in a similar condition.

7. Search Out Ready Made Bundles Of Clothes

This is something I do frequently on Vinted, simply search ‘Boys Clothing Bundle Age 3-4 (or whatever you’re looking for!) and see what comes up.

Many sellers make their own bundles of clothes as it’s easier to photograph and post one big bundle of clothing rather than lots of little ones. And you’ll often find these go for bargain prices too.

I had a baby earlier this year and 95% of his clothing came from buying cheap bundles on Vinted. I’ve just kitted him out in the next size up and spent less than £30 for everything he needs including vests, coats, baby grows, jumpers, trousers and cute little matching outfits.

8. Used Saved Searched For Your Favourite Brands

Buying on Vinted is a great way to get quality brands for less.

If you have a favourite brand you search for often, you can save the search term and your chosen filters (such as size) and the when you go search Vinted tells you how many new items have been listed.

Final Tips For Buying Kids Clothes From Vinted

Here are a quick round-up of tips for buying kids’ clothes from Vinted.

  • Use your favourite list to compare items and prices. Sellers may also offer a discount on something you have favourites or you can make a lower priced offer.
  • Browse each seller’s other items to create your own discounted bundle or save money on postage. If you’re searching for kids clothes in a particular size you may find they have lots of items in that age range.
  • Just like with eBay, search for big bundles of mixed items for the biggest savings.
  • Use Evri parcel collection for the cheapest postage.
  • Customize your home feed and save searches for ease of use.
  • Ask questions if there’s anything you’re unsure about such as condition or sizing.
  • If you’re happy with your purchase, leave positive feedback for the seller.

Every seller I’ve bought from on Vinted has been lovely. One thing to remember is that Vinted holds your money from the seller until the parcel has arrived or been collected.

As long as you’re happy with your purchase pop back on the app and let the seller know (Vinted will prompt you to do this) so the funds are released to them.

If for whatever reason the seller doesn’t post your item, Vinted will refund you within two weeks. If your item is damaged or significantly not as described, Vinted will refund you then too.

Overall I’ve had a really good experience buying kids clothes from Vinted and it’s definitely something I am going to continue to do.
