5 Reasons To Shop On Vinted This Christmas

Vinted may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about doing your Christmas this year. But, there are many good reasons you should try it, not least because it could save you quite a bit of cash. Here are five reasons to shop on Vinted this Christmas
I have written extensively in the last couple of years about how much I love shopping on Vinted. I’ve always been a passionate advocate for shopping second hand and for a while now Vinted has been my go-to app for clothes, shoes, and toys.
Both this Christmas and last Christmas I’ve also managed to buy several gifts from Vinted including toys for my daughter and other family members as well as Christmas Jumpers and Pyjamas.
Vinted is probably my favorite way to shop second-hand. The app is easy to use and I enjoy having a scroll through it in the evening while sitting in front of the telly. You can get so much on Vinted, from new with tags Pyjamas for your Christmas Eve Box to brand new smellies sets.

While it might not be possible to buy all of your gifts second-hand this year, if everyone bought just one or two second-hand gifts, it would have a huge positive impact on the environment and Vinted is a great place to get started.
1. Shopping On Vinted Will Save You Money
Buying second-hand will almost always be cheaper than buying new. There are a few incidences where this isn’t true, such as with some designer or vintage items but on the whole, you will save money.
This year I really wanted to buy my daughter some Lego for Christmas. She’s four and a half and has just about outgrown Mega Blocks and Duplo and building things and drawing are her two passions in life (her Dad is a bricklayer so I think she gets it from him).
I found two brand new-in-box sets from the same seller on Vinted. Even with fees and postage, I saved over £15 on what both sets would have cost new. Still cost £35 overall but Lego is expensive and I was happy to make a saving.

Whatever your children (if you have them) have asked for this Christmas, check on Vinted first. You might not find what they’ve asked for, but you might just find yourself a bargain.
And it doesn’t stop with toys. There are literally thousands of unopened gift sets, scarves, and things that were in last year’s Boots 3 for 2 on Vinted. People are often selling simply because something is not their style, they’re allergic to the ingredients or it’s just not something they’re going to use.

2. Buy Better Quality
One thing that I’ve always loved about buying second hand, is that if you’re on a tight budget, it can allow you to buy better quality items than you might ordinarily have been able to afford.
For example, typically I find Next children’s clothing to be better quality than Primark. But of course, Next is more expensive. But I can often get several items of Next clothing on Vinted for less or the same as buying from Primark.

3. Shopping On Vinted Is Better For The Environment
Buying Christmas presents second-hand is much better for the environment. It helps to limit the number of items heading into landfill and can reduce plastic waste on toys and games that often can’t be recycled.
Vinted is also a great place to buy Christmas Jumpers and Christmas Pyjamas. These items are often only worn once or twice so are usually in great condition.
I also always try to buy anything with sequins second hand too – sequins can’t be recycled so the more uses we get out of anything with sequins the better!

4. Buy From People Who Will Actually Appreciate You Buying From Them
There is a quote that I often see online that says something along the lines of
‘Every time you shop with a small business, the owner does a happy dance. You are helping pay for ballet lessons rather than making another CEO richer’
I think this exact sentiment can be applied to shopping on Vinted. Money is tight for the majority of people at the moment, and many are selling their stuff online to make some extra cash.
Cash, which will more than likely be spent on purchasing their own Christmas presents this year. Personally, I would far rather buy from other people like me who need that money, than continue to make Jeff Bezos richer by shopping on Amazon.
(And no, Ms. Truss, trickle-down economics do not work. I feel fairly confident anyone I buy from on Vinted will be using that money in their local economy or community, rather than stashing it away outside of the U.K.)
Of course, I also fully advocate buying from small businesses where you can afford to as well. As I mentioned above not everyone will be able to buy all of their gifts second-hand, I totally appreciate that.
5. Preloved Doesn’t Have To Mean Used
I know not everyone is a fan of buying clothes that have already been worn or toys that have already been played with.
However, there are loads of brand new with tags items on Vinted, many at fraction of what they would have cost new. You can change your search function to only show new items to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.
Tips For Shopping On Vinted This Christmas
Will you be giving Vinted a go for some Christmas shopping this year? Here are some tips to help you find the best bargains on Vinted.
- Look out for free postage. Vinted sometimes offers this to new sellers, meaning you’ll only pay the price of the item and Vinted fees.
- Always check the seller’s other items. Looking for Lego? They may well be selling more than one set and often you can get discounts for buying more than one item from the same seller.
- Start shopping early. Shopping secondhand does mean it can take a bit more time to find exactly what you’re looking for, but the savings are often worth it.
- Use the favorite (heart) button to keep track of items that you like and compare prices. Sometimes when you favorite an item the seller may send you a discount too. You can also save search terms to use again later.
- Filter results to lowest price items first to find the best bargains.
