Are you wondering how to make money on Vinted? If you’ve heard friends and family talking about making money on Vinted, but aren’t sure how to do it yourself, this post contains everything you need to know.
Vinted has exploded in popularity in recent years for both those buying second-hand goods and those wanting to make some extra cash from their old items.
Categories have recently expanded to include home, entertainment and pets, meaning just like on eBay, you can sell pretty much anything relating to clothes and homewares.
Why Is Vinted So Popular?
There are several reasons Vinted is popular.
For those wanting to sell goods, there are no selling fees as this cost is passed onto the buyer giving it an edge over other sites such as eBay and Depop.
The process of uploading items is very simple and could easily take less than a minute per item. Vinted has around seven million users in the U.K. alone meaning lots of potential buyers will see your items.
As for buyers, there are loads of bargains to be had, and who doesn’t love a bargain?
The Vinted app is also very easy to use and buyers can easily save searches for their favourites and tailor their home feed to only show the sizes and styles they want to buy.
How To Make Money On Vinted
The way to make money on Vinted is to sell your old items.
You can sell anything from old clothes and shoes, books and DVDs, toys and even some items of homeware like candles, jewellery boxes and new bedding.
When you sell an item on Vinted, there are no selling fees so you get to keep all of the profit.

You can then either keep the money in your Vinted account to spend on Vinted or withdraw the cash to your bank account.
I find selling my old kids’ clothes on Vinted and then keeping the funds ready to buy new items when they need them is a great way to be cash-neutral.

How To Sell On Vinted
Selling items on Vinted is easy.
The Vinted app takes you through the process of listing your items step by step but there are a few things you might want to do before you get started such as making sure any clothes you want to sell a clean and ironed.
I always try to take photos for Vinted in good, bright light but not direct sunlight. I found during the winter months after around 3 pm it was just too dark!
You can take photos on your phone beforehand or when listing on the app.
I tend to use my phone as then I have the images if I want to list the item elsewhere or decide to relist items at a later date.
Take photos against a bright clean background – I usually use my white wardrobe door. I also try to use nice wooden hangers for my items.
Selling On Vinted In 8 Easy Steps
-
Download the Vinted app and set up an account if you don’t already have one. Tap the ‘sell’ button on the menu at the bottom of the screen.
-
Add your photographs (or take them in-app) making sure they clearly show your item, including any defaults such as marks, holes or missing buttons.
-
Add a title and description for your item. The more detail you add, the more likely buyers will find your item. With children’s clothing add the size as Vinted only allows age 7 or age 8, not 7-8.
-
Fill in the rest of the listing using the prompts given. If you’re unsure about the condition of the item, always go slightly worse eg, good instead of very good.
-
Choose a price for your item. Vinted will suggest recent sold prices of similar items but you can choose whatever price you wish.
-
Finally, select your parcel size. Again Vinted will suggest a size but I find this feature isn’t always accurate, especially if you’re selling bundles of clothing.
-
Press upload for your item to be listed on the Vinted marketplace.
-
When your item sells, carefully package your item, print or download a label and take it to your nearest drop-off point within five working days.

How To Price Your Items On Vinted
Deciding how to price your items on Vinted can be tricky.
Of course, you want to make as much money as possible.
However, items on Vinted are often priced very cheaply, and if you don’t price competitively, you might not get as many sales.
You also have to factor in people making offers – this is where buyers can message you asking for a price reduction.
Of course, you don’t have to accept their offer, but I know that many Vinted sellers have increased their starting price by around 20% to account for this happening and then the buyer feels as though they have got a bargain.
There is also your time to consider.
Do you want to constantly be going to send parcels that are only making you £1 each time? Consider selling items in bundles.
This means selling more items in one go and making more money. This works especially well for children’s clothes.
Pricing on Vinted can be a bit of a minefield but don’t forget you can always lower your prices if items don’t sell and send offers to interested buyers.
New with tags items do tend to sell for more – I find I can usually get around 65% of the price on the tag, whereas second-hand clothing sells for quite a lot less than it’s original purchase price.
Should I Sell Items For £1 On Vinted?
£1 is the lowest price you can sell for on Vinted.
There are both positives and negatives to selling at this price point.
If an item is £1, the buyer still has to pay postage and 75p Vinted fees. This means the minimum cost to the buyer using the cheapest shipping option of Inpost locker delivery is £4.04.
When the item is a dress or a top, many people would be happy to pay for this as it’s significantly cheaper than buying new.
However, if the item is, for example, a baby bodysuit which can be bought as a three-pack brand new for £4.50 the price is suddenly much less appealing.
That said, if your whole page is full of baby clothes in the same size and the buyer can create a bundle to save on postage, they might be happy to pay it.
Should You Offer Bundle Discounts On Vinted?
Yes, I think you should offer bundle discounts on Vinted as theoretically, it will lead to more sales overall although you will make a little bit less money than selling the items individually.
However, you’ll use less packaging and spend less time sending out the parcels.
As a frequent buyer on Vinted, I always feel a little bit disappointed when a seller doesn’t have this feature switched on.
You can adjust the amount of the discount offer in your settings. Most sellers increase the discount incrementally, so 10% off two items, 20% off four items and so on.
Should I Sell Designer Items On Vinted?
You can sell designer items on Vinted.
However, depending on the item and how much you want to sell it for, you might get a better price elsewhere.
Vinted recently launched an authentication service, where buyers can pay an additional £10 to have designer items verified by Vinted before the purchase goes through.
What Are The Best Items To Sell On Vinted?
Here are some of the things that sell well on Vinted
- Womens Clothing
- Womens Shoes
- Children’s Clothing
- School Uniform
- Baby Clothing
- Baby items such as swaddles and sleep sacks
- Toys
- Candles
How Does Vinted Pay You?
Once the buyer has received their item, and pressed the ‘everything is okay’ button, it will take a few days for any money to be released into your Vinted account.
If the buyer doesn’t confirm they have the parcel, Vinted will do this automatically after four days.
How Can I Make More Money On Vinted?
If your sales have slowed down, you might be wondering how you can make more money on Vinted.
Here are a few things you might want to try.
1. Upload New Items Every Day
This might sound a little bit daunting, but each time you add new items they are visible to new people. Take photographs in batches and then gradually upload a few things each day.
2. Delete And Relist old Items On Vinted
Wondering if you can delete and relist items on Vinted?
You absolutely can.
If you have items that haven’t sold after say six months that had little to no interest, it might be time to delete and relist them.
Try a different description, new photos or a more detailed listing title.
3. Reduce The Price Of Your Items
You can edit the price of your items, so if they’ve not sold you might want to reduce your prices, even if it’s only by 50p.
Anyone who has favourited that item will then get a notification with the price decrease, which could spark new interest.
4. Don’t Upload Too Many New With Tags Items
Selling brand-new items on Vinted is great for making money, as these can be priced slightly higher than used items.
However, Vinted at its heart is supposed to be a marketplace for secondhand items.
If all of the items you are uploading are new with tags, it could be causing fewer of your items to get seen.
5. Send Discounted Offers
In the same way that buyers can offer a lower price on an item, sellers on Vinted can also offer a lower price to anyone who favourites that item.
I usually offer 50p or £1 off depending on the price of the item to see if that leads to a sale.
Of course, for higher-priced items, you may want to offer a slightly bigger discount.
You could also message to let a potential buyer know how soon you can post the item.
6. Package Your Items Properly
When it comes to packaging, the seller is responsible for ensuring items arrive in one piece. If you want to avoid having to give refunds, ensure everything you sell is well-wrapped.
I recently had a breakable item sent in a plain mailing bag, with no bubble wrap or protection of any sort, and it smashed coming through my letter box.
Reusing packaging is absolutely fine, as long as it’s clean and will keep the item free from damage.
However, if you need mailing bags they can be purchased cheaply on Amazon.

Do I Have To Pay Tax On Vinted Sales?
If you’re selling your old items at a lower price than you bought them for, then you don’t need to pay tax.
If you’re buying items in charity shops to sell on Vinted then you will need to pay tax if you make more than £1000 per year.
