December – A Month of Discounts, Freebies and Advent Comps!

While December might be one of the most expensive months of the year for many, it’s also an excellent month for special offers, discounts, freebies and entering competitions.
It’s December! And that means one thing – the festive season is well and truly on its way.
Now I know December is pretty busy for most people, but for those who love saving money and entering competitions, it’s even busier!
December App Offers
M&S Sparks App
It’s that time of year when brands, businesses and supermarkets are all trying to get into stores and buy their products, and one way they do that is to try to tempt us with lots of special offers.
First up this year was M&S with a freebie offer in their Sparks app. There was a whole range of different freebies ranging from a free light-up bottle of gin to bottles of prosecco, hand creams, strings of festive lights and even some Percy pigs.
This was a great start to the festive season even though the following offers weren’t quite as tasty but included things like 15% of Stilton Cheese and discounts on M&S clothing ranges.
O2 Priority
There have also been some fab offers in the O2 Priority app which is for those who have a phone contract with O2.
One of the best freebies was a free midweek buffet lunch at Pizza Hut, a perfect treat for when you’re out and about Christmas shopping. Plus free treats from Greggs including hot drinks and festive bakes.
There have also been lots of competitions in the O2 Priority app including chances to win £100 of vouchers for both Sainsburys and Argos as well as holidays. I’ve actually been quite lucky with these competitions in the past winning shopping vouchers and England Rugby merch so I always enter them when they pop up.
GreenJinn App
The GreenJinn App has had a range of offers over the advent period including half-price vegan ‘vhicken’ products, discounted oat milk and freebies including kids’ apple crisps.
These change daily so it’s worth checking the app each day.
Lidl Plus App
The Lidl App also has an offer each day up until Christmas. Usually, an offer for a percentage off an item. Not worth it unless you were going anyway but could still save you some cash. And don’t forget to activate your other offer while you’re there too!
Asda Rewards App
I downloaded the Asda rewards app when it launched but I hadn’t actually gotten around to using it yet. I had an offer pop up this week (8/12/22 – I’m updating this post as I go!) for a free £5 rewards voucher for spending as little as 0.01p in-store.
I picked up something I needed anyway for £1 scanned the app and the voucher was there right away. I went back and got some Christmas desserts and then paid for them with my free £5 voucher. Bargain!
If you’ve not used that app yet then now is definitely time to give it a try or see if you have this offer.
Shopmium
I love using the Shopmium App to save money and there has been quite a few goods offers this month so far including pringles for 50p and then another offer where they work out at £1 per pot. I thought this was a great way to stock up for Christmas considering the cheapest they are usually now is £1.65 and of course, the app has lots of great other offers too.

Advent Comps
I’ve written before about how much I love entering competitions and the start of December seems to get a bit crazy with them! This is because brands are trying to attract as many new followers and eyes on their products as they possibly can before Christmas.
Typically for entering competitions I search on Twitter and use Loquax’s closing soon pages.

Brand Discounts
It’s also likely you’ll lots of promotional emails this month from brands trying to encourage you to shop with them.
Discounts are great if it’s something you need and were planning on buying anyway. If it wasn’t, then it might be worth leaving it 24 hrs before purchasing.
If you struggle with impulse buying then this might be the time to unsubscribe from retailers too if you don’t need to make any purchases.
