Becoming A Comper (Plus 6 Comping Tips)

Comping is a fantastic hobby and as long as you have an internet connection it doesn’t have to cost a penny. I’ve had a couple of wins so far this year despite not being able to enter as many competitions as I’d like. So I thought I’d share a few comping tips for newbie compers to get going and hopefully start winning some prizes.
Becoming A Comper
Comping is a great hobby as it costs very little to do and you could be in with a chance of winning big as the more competitions you enter the greater your chances of winning one of them are. It’s easy to get started from your laptop or phone and can easily be dipped in and out of at your leisure.
Comping is perfect for those times you might be a little bit bored but want to do something more productive than scrolling through social media, such as waiting for the bus or on a long daily computer.

Where To Find Competitions To Enter Online
1. Money Saving Expert
Money Saving Expert has a huge comping forum and is a great place for finding competition to enter. They can be quite strict over there so it’s worth having a good read of the rules before posting anything.
2. Loquax
Loquax is filled to the brim with competitions and easily lets you enter competitions by those that are ending soonest.
3. Competition Database
Competition database is another comping website that has a huge list of active competitions. You can search by prize value which is great if you’d rather focus on bigger prizes that are worth more money. You can also easily search by entry method if you have a preferred way of doing things.
4. Prize Finder
Offers a lot of the same features as the sites mentioned above. There are top competitions on the homepage and they offer a competition tracker too. I find the site quite ad-heavy which for me made it slower to use than some other competition websites.
5. Facebook
As I follow lots of big brands on Facebook, I seem to always get lots of competitions popping up in my feed without me even really needing to look for them.
Brands such as B&M, Next, Joules and Aldi all run competitions every week. It’s also worth looking for smaller, local brand competitions too as typically these will have fewer entries.
It’s also now common for bigger name brands to have individual pages for each shop or restaurant. I recently won a voucher for my local Hungry Horse through their location page rather than their main brand page.

6. Twitter (X)
Finding competitions on Twitter is really easy – simply search hashtags such as #giveaway #comp #competition #win #winitwednesday and #freebiefriday. Be sure to follow all the instructions – sometimes more than just a follow and a retweet is required.
7. Super Lucky
Super Lucky is the website to go to when it comes to all things comping and the best comping tips. With guides for every type of competition, a comprehensive list of all UK competition sites and loads of comping tips to get you winning from the start, it’s a great place to start your comping journey.
My Top 6 Comping Tips
- It’s worth setting up a new email address just for entering competitions so your main account is bombarded. Some people like to have a separate comping account on twitter too.
- While you can enter competitions any day of the week (another reason I like comping – it’s easy to do anytime you’re free!) I like Wednesdays and Fridays – find out why here.
- Always read and follow the instructions carefully to ensure your entry is counted.
- Watch out for fake competitions- these are prolific on Facebook and usually, say something like ‘our last winner didn’t respond so to win 20 BMWs share by 9 pm’ read my full post on Facebook Scams for more details.
- Facebook competitions shouldn’t ask you to share the post or tag friends as it’s against Facebook’s terms and conditions. All legitimate competitions should have a clear end date.
- Competitions that require effort tend to have fewer entries – so if you need to take a picture, write a poem etc go for it, you’ll likely have a much higher chance of winning!

What I’ve Won This Year
I enjoy comping and I’ve been lucky enough to have a couple of wins already this year even though I’ve not had a lot of time to put into it.
Thanks to a Twitter competition I won two copies of the book which were signed by the author and several boxes of fancy biscuits to enjoy while reading them.
As there were two copies I sent one to one of my lovely blogging friends who also likes comping, Paula from Mummy vs Work.
In a recent Facebook competition, I won a £30 voucher for a meal at a local chain restaurant that had been refurbished.
It was nice eating out and not having to pay for it and it also meant one less meal out of our weekly meal plan too.
Winning some prizes has helped motivate me to keep coming and hopefully keep being just as lucky!
Such a helpful post. I used to enter lots of competitions but never won anything so gave up, might have to give it another go!

I love comping, it’s definitely my favourite hobby! I agree it’s great to do something productive online to pass the time by.
