This weekend my husband and I popped to Cheddar Car Boot sale for a look around. It’s one of the biggest Car Boot Sales in Somerset and runs every Sunday throughout the year. We’d never been before so were really looking forward to a bit of bargain hunting on a nice sunny Sunday morning.
If you love a bargain then there’s often nothing better than a lazy stroll around a local car boot sale. And of course they are the best place to make some extra money too. Heres what we thought of Cheddar Car Boot Sale, Somerset.
Finding Cheddar Car Boot Sale
Finding Cheddar Car Boot Sale was actually really easy. Despite the fact the site is huge, I was expecting it to be down some tiny country lane that was tricky to get in and out of and this isn’t the case at all, it’s actually on a fairly busy main road.

Opening Times
Cheddar Car Boot Sale is open from 6am for both buyers and sellers every Sunday except for Christmas week and closes at 2pm, although of course, some sellers do pack up before this, depending on weather etc.
Cheddar Car Boot Sale does not open on Bank Holiday Monday’s.
Cost of Entry & Parking At Cheddar Car Boot Sale
It costs £2 per car to get into Cheddar Car Boot sale and parking was plentiful when we arrived around 9am on a weekend in August. There is disabled parking closer to the venue available for those who need it.
We’d actually read some horrendous reviews about the parking situation online before attending but didn’t find any issues on the day itself and these were from quite some time ago, so things have obviously improved since then.
Selling at Cheddar Car Boot Sale
The cost of selling is as follows:
Outdoor Pitches:
Car £10
Small van/ Trailer £12
Indoor Pitches:
8ft space £8
12ft space £10
Plus £1 booking of booked by card. Bookings must be made by 12pm the Saturday before you wish to sell.
Tables can be hired for £1/£2 if needed.
Based on other car boot sales in the area these prices are pretty expensive, however it is a very popular one so hopefully it would be easy enough to make that money back plus a profit.
What’s At Cheddar Car Boot Sale
There was quite a combination of stalls at Cheddar Car Boot.
As we entered there was a large van selling meat, a van selling flowers and plants and a large cake stall.
The indoor area is split into two sections. When we visited the first section was only about half full with sellers – I imagine in the winter it gets much busier. This was a combination of sellers with some selling specific products such as fishing gear, air rifles or jewellery as well as folks selling more general car boot stuff.
There were also several stalls selling homemade cakes, bakes, bread, cheeses and pastries.
The second indoor area is full of permanent shops, almost like an indoor market. Again there is a wide range from antiques to shabby chic furniture and collectable toys to American west paraphernalia.
There are then two more outdoor sections. One is concrete and another is a field which is the bit that felt most like a typical car boot sale and was the bit we enjoyed looking around the most.
As we went in August we felt this bit was probably quieter than usual as it was the summer holidays and lots of people were maybe on holiday.
Overall it took us less than an hour to look at everything and we didn’t feel the need to go round again.
Facilities At Cheddar Car Boot Sale
Cheddar Car Boot Sale has a toilet block and a permanent onsite cafe which is open from 8 am. There was also an ice cream van on the day we visited.
What We bought At Cheddar Car Boot Sale
We actually didn’t buy anything! There were some things we were looking out for but didn’t find any of them and we didn’t want to buy stuff before for the sake of it.
As with any car boot sale prices varied vastly – we were looking out for board books for our daughter and they ranged from 10p to £1 so it’s worth a good look around before buying anything.
If you’re on the lookout for kids’ toys we noticed there were LOADS of Toot Toot driver’s stuff, almost every car selling general car boot stuff had some!
Other than that it was mostly typical car boot stuff – clothes, toys, books and homewares.
Attractions Close To Cheddar Car Boot Sale
As we were only at the car boot sale for an hour we decided to make a day of it and visit some other local attractions. We drove through Cheddar Gorge and then carried on over to Wells.
There is actually a Garden Center right next to the Car Boot sale site, simply turn right when you leave and then it’s on the right almost immediately. We would have popped in had we known it was there!
Clarks Village Outlet Shopping isn’t too far away either.
Would We Go Again?
Yes, we probably would. It was a nice big Car Boot Sale to take a look around and very reasonably priced to get in.
