Reusable period products are something I’ve been wanting to try for a while so when Trade To Aid asked if I would give them a go, I jumped at the chance. Even better, they’re giving away another set to one lucky reader.
Why Choose Sustainable Period Products?
Most period products aren’t reusable meaning thousands, if not millions end up in landfill every year. As people (myself included!) become more eco-conscious, they are looking to limit the number of single-use products they use and of course, sanitary products such as towels and tampons fall into this category.
Reusable sanitary pads, like the ones sent to me by Trade To Aid, can be used over and over again, rather than being thrown away after each use.
They are also more comfortable than traditional pads and don’t contain any harsh chemicals. This means they are less likely to irritate your most intimate area. The waterproof layer is made from recycled plastics which is also a bonus.
While the initial cost of reusable period pads can be expensive, once you have enough they can be used for years, so will end up saving you money in the long run and of course, they are better for the environment too.

How To Use Trade To Aid Reusable Pads
Trade To Aid Period pads are used much in the same way you would use disposable sanitary pads.
They have an absorbent core that soaks up moisture and keeps you dry. I found them quite bulky to wear and would equate the feel of them to wearing a maternity pad but with a much softer lining.
After use, instead of throwing them away, you wash them, dry them and use them again.
They come in three different absorbency levels so can be used throughout your period. Reusable period pads can be washed with other washing, but shouldn’t be tumble dried.
For particularly heavy flows, you may want to give the pad a rinse under cold water before washing.
The reusable pack provided by Trade To Aid contains two of each different size pads and a small waterproof bag which you can put your pad in if you need to change it while out and about during the day.
How Do Reusable Pads Stay In Place?
Reusable Pads are held in place with a small popper fastening which works in the same way as wings would on a disposable sanitary towel.
I did find my pad moved around quite a bit at night (one time it turned over completely!) so would probably team it with some period pants during heavier times to avoid leakage.
How I Found Reusable Period Pads
For me, I love that reusable period pads are a more sustainable choice. After having an implant for the last 15 years which stopped my periods completely, I almost feel like I’m a teenager again learning which type of products suit me best.
As I mentioned before, I did find the feel of reusable pads quite bulky like wearing a maternity pad but perhaps that’s just something I need to get used to. I was worried I’d feel the popper between my legs but it didn’t bother me at all.
I did find the pads moved about quite a bit so I’m not sure I’d use them if I was having a very active day but they would be perfect for days I’m working from home or lounging about at home.
I also found the pads moved about at night, with one turning over completely. However, I am a very light sleeper with a toddler who is usually up 2/3 times a night so this might not be the case for everyone. I also think this would be the case with any type of reusable pad I used, so this isn’t the fault of this particular brand, I just wanted to be honest about how I found them.
One of my favourite things about the pads was the soft grey lining which was really comfortable to wear.
