Tech Gadgets with the Best Resale Value

If you’re in the market for a new electronic device – whether it’s a high-end piece of professional equipment or an inexpensive toy – then you’ll want to think about how your investment might depreciate over time. Some gadgets will tend to hold their value; others, not so much.
Let’s run through a few categories, and see which will tend to fare best.
Cameras
If you’re looking to get into photography, you might be faintly astonished at the prices that a high-end DSLR camera can fetch. Much of that value, moreover, is concentrated in things that have little to do with the electronics and microcomputers themselves. The sensors and lenses are what you’re paying for, for the most part.
Given all of this, you might find that your choice of camera can fetch a reasonable sum on the second-hand market. Those new to the hobby will always be on the lookout for more affordable ways in, and experienced photographers might be eager to scoop a more specialised lens for a bargain price.
Apple iPhone
You can expect a brand new, top-of-the-range iPhone to go for well into four figures. Apple aficionados who’d prefer not to spend quite so much might look to the second-hand market, where substantial discounts can be had for Apple phones that are just a few years old. If you’d like to upgrade frequently, then being prepared to sell might help you to do it affordably.

Games Console
We’re in the middle of a silicon shortage which is restricting the supply of new games consoles. As such, the resale value of these machines has never been higher. This goes especially if you’ve had the foresight to keep the original box and controllers, and the games are still in good condition. If you throw your machine into the loft, you may find that it will probably never be used again. Sell it on the open market while you can.
Apple iPad
Your tablet computer can be sold for a decent chunk of cash. Again, it’s the touchscreen that would-be buyers will be interested in, rather than the computer bit. Keep your iPad, and when the time comes around for an upgrade, sell it. Just make sure you wipe it first.
Smartwatch
Smartwatches aren’t just a technological marvel: they’re also a fashion statement. Many of the things they do, like tell the time and monitor your heartrate, they’ll be able to do just as well for years to come. So, you can sell when you feel like upgrading.
