Cheap Flatbreads: Basic Ingredients
- 350grams of Self raising flour
- 300grams natural yoghurt
- 1 tsp of baking powder
Garlic Butter Topping (optional)
- 2TBSP Butter
- 3 Cloves Crushed garlic
- A handful of chopped parsley
Method: Cheap Flatbreads
- Preheat oven to gas mark 1 (150 degrees c)
- Mix ingredients (flour, yoghurt, baking powder) together in a large bowl until a dough forms
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 2 minutes – add a little flour if it feels wet
- Place the dough back in the bowl, cover, and rest for 5-10 minutes
- Split the dough into 6-8 balls depending on how large you want the flatbreads to be
- Flatten each ball and then use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to around 1cm thick
- Heat a griddle pan (or good non-stick frying pan) on the highest stove setting until very hot. DO NOT add oil, it’snot needed.
- When the pan is hot, reduce the heat to around half and add the rolled out dough/flatbread. While it’s cooking, use the time to roll out the next flatbread.
- Cook on one side until the top of the flatbread begins to bubble. Flip the flatbread and cook until dark brown spots appear on each side. Brush with garlic butter if using.
- Place each cooked flatbread on a tray in the oven until all of them are cooked. Add topping as desired
For the garlic butter:
- Crush the garlic and roughly chop the parsley.
- Melt the butter, either in the microwave for around 30 seconds or in a small pan on the stove.
- Combine and brush over the cooked flatbreads.
