One thing I love doing is shopping for yellow stickers and today I wanted to do a little update about some yellow sticker foods I’ve found in Morisons recently. I found these yellow sticker reductions much earlier in the day than I would have expected menaing you really can grab yellow sticker bargains no matter what time of day you shop.

Yellow sticker shopping can be a great way to save money on food, especially on fresh meat and vegetables. In the past, a good chunk of my weekly shop has been made up of items from yellow sticker reductions and it’s saved us loads of cash.

I must admit that in the last eighteen months I’ve bought a lot fewer yellow stickers than I previously would have. This was of course due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Along with everyone else, I limited my shopping trips right down to essential trips only and this typically meant my husband going to Lidl once a week and me not popping out to get the odd top-up shop or coupon shop (something else I’ve done a lot less off).

While Lidl does sometimes have reductions they don’t have as many as some of the other supermarkets. Now the rules have eased a bit and I’ve had both of the vaccinations I want to get back to keeping the cost of our weekly shop down by buying more yellow sticker items.

As well as being for our wallets, buying yellow sticker reductions is great for the environment too, as buying it means that food isn’t then thrown out at the end of the day. Some supermarkets do partner with charities in a bid to prevent waste, but the charities don’t always have the capacity to take all of the food being offered.

One thing I’ve had a lot of success with recently is getting yellow stickers in Morrisons first thing in the morning. I’ve occasionally had to pop in on my way back from dropping my daughter at her Nursery so have been shopping at around 9 am.

What I’ve found is lots of fresh produce with at least a 50% reduction. I’m not sure whether it’s items that didn’t sell the day before or new items that have been heavily reduced to rid of them, but I am enjoying finding lots of cheap food!

There can be a bit of a misconception that the best time for reduced food is in the evening and during the day there is little to no discount. This is simply not true and personally, I like to a good at the reduced items no matter what time of day I shop.

Here are a few of the items I’ve found on recent  early morning shopping trips:

  • Chicken Kievs Reduced from £3.95 to £1.19
  • Black Pudding Reduced from £1.00 to 30p
  • Garlic Butter Chicken Reduced from £3.30 to £1.65

Morisons also have good yellow sticker reductions mid-afternoon, especially on bakery goods. I’ve often picked up loaves of bread down to 5p and other baked goods for 10p and 20p as pictured below.

Morrison also is very good for yellow sticker reductions between Christmas and New Year. In previous years I’ve picked up packs of King Prawns and Scallops reduced down to 5p and 10p a pack.

Quick Guide To Morrisons Yellow Sticker Reduction Times

Morrisons yellow sticker reductions can start quite early in the day, especially fresh fruit and vegetables – I’ve found soft fruits such as strawberries and raspberries down to 10p by 12pm.

Bakery goods usually get yellow stickered around lunchtime and are often heavily discounted by 3 or 4 pm.

Meat and fish are often reduced by 20% to 50% by 2 pm but try after 5 pm for the best bargains. However, as mentioned in this post I am seeing lots of bargains first thing, from as early as 8.30 am.

Top Tips For Buying Yellow Sticker Reductions

First of all, I wanted to take a look at few reasons buying yellow sticker food is such a great idea:

  • It’s good for the environment as it prevents waste
  • It can save you loads of money
  • Yellow sticker shopping means you can buy better quality or afford to buy more expensive cuts of meat such as steaks.
  • Great way to fill the freezer with quality food and make meals on a tight budget.

There’s nothing at all wrong with buying reduced food. Most yellow sticker items should be okay to eat for a few days after the use-by date as long as it been stored safely, ie. not left out on the counter for a long time and instead been put straight in the fridge.

If you’re concerned about yellow sticker food deteriorating and becoming unsafe to eat, it’s worth either cooking or freezing on the day of purchase as an extra precaution.

Also, remember it’s not just fresh produce like meat and vegetables that gets reduced in supermarkets – deleted lines or a change in packaging often mean non-perishables get reduced too. These are usually Best Before End rather than Use By Dates so make a great purchase if you want to stock up your cupboards as well as your freezer.
