This we weekend we were lucky enough to be gifted tickets to take a look the Stourhead Christmas Light Trail. I’ll be honest, I’d never been to Stourhead before and I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the light trail. These things can be so hard to visualize if you’ve not seen them before!
What I will say though is that we were completely blown away by Stourhead Christmas Light trial. We enjoyed every minute of the mile and half walk and have never experienced anything like it before. We came away feeling very festive and ready to get into the Christmas Spirit. It would make a lovely Christmassy evening out for people of all ages. While there are some steep parts, the trail is fully accessible.
Stourhead Christmas Light Trail Review
The Stourhead Christmas Light Trail isn’t just about the lights. It’s an immersive experience that includes sculpture music, visual effects and smells too. We were even lucky enough to meet Santa! There were so many amazing areas, it’s actually really difficult to pick a favourite, but I think mine was the light-up spheres that overlook the lake.
My husband loved the five gold ‘Rings of Fire’ and my 18-month-old daughter loved the walk-through light experience at the end (see below for some gorgeous pictures of her enjoying it!).
We also spotted and photographed each of the twelves days of Christmas Sculptures which was a wonderful way to keep the theme running throughout.
I don’t want to mention too many specifics such as the exact music used as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t been yet – however, it is an event that we would 100% recommend for the coming festive period and we are seriously considering purchasing tickets to go again.
Update November 2021 – The festive trail is open on selected dates from 26 November 2021 – 2 January 2022. The trail will be open from 4.30pm, last entry at 8 pm and closes at 10 pm. The Christmas Light Trail takes around 90 minutes to complete.
You can book tickets online. National Trust members don’t get a discount on entry prices but do get free car parking.
Advanced Tickets: Adult £20, Child £14, Family £66 (2 adults & 2 children).
Free entry for carers and children aged 2 & under. Parking £8 per car.
Unfortunately due to the deluge of rain yesterday evening we could not see the magic Lights of Stourhead. I feel strongly that the event should have been cancelled and we either got a refund or were able to change the dates. I was so looking forward to it
That’s such a shame. And yes I completely agree that you should be refunded or able to attend for free at another time, especially if it had that much of a detrimental effect on your visit.
Me and my wife went to the light trail last saturday 14th dec and besides the deluge of rain that we had I must say I wasn’t that impressed definitely not the wow factor and j feel overpriced at £18 an adult.
Oh that’s such a shame that you didn’t enjoy it – we were certainly lucky with the weather when we visited, icy cold but luckily not wet. I definitely think that would have put a dampener on it for us. I agree that the price point is a little steep especially with the cost of parking and given that NT members don’t receive a discount on entry. Perhaps that’s something you could feedback directly to Stourhead?
