4 Brilliant Somerset Businesses

Somerset is a county with so much to offer – Including plenty of beautiful and creative small businesses. In this post, I celebrate four of my favourites. . . and encourage everyone to shop small this Christmas.
When it comes to Christmas shopping there are lots of things to consider. As well as the obvious ‘Will the person actually like it’ there’s also things like budget, quality, value and originality to think about. While I do absolutely love a bargain and many of my Christmas presents are bought in the January sales, I also like to buy a few gifts from local Somerset businesses.
4 Brilliant Somerset Businesses
While the products may be that little bit more expensive, it’s great to support to the local economy and know that the gifts you are buying have been hand made with care and love. They also provide the opportunity to find some amazing and unique presents. Somerset is an amazing and diverse county and I have chosen four small Somerset businesses who’s products really appeal to me.
When you shop local you are helping families just like your own support themselves rather than making some CEO even richer. Even if you just buy one or two gifts from Somerset businesses this Christmas I assure you, every penny spent will be worth it.
Beautiful British Designs
Beautiful British Designs is run by two Mum’s, Janet and Catherine and are based in Somerset. They love to help businesses from all over the U.K get their hand crafted products seen by encouraging small businesses and retail outlets to work together.
The Beautiful British Designs website is filled with an array of beautiful and unique products. If you have a Mum or Auntie you are struggling to buy for, you’re sure to find something to suit. I particularly like the kitchen range! Oh and if you’re a dog lover they have the most adorable doggy bow ties too!
As I write this the two lovely ladies are busy selling their wares at Bath Christmas Market so if you’re planning on visiting make sure you pop along and say hi! (Bath Christmas Market runs until December 10th 2017)

I love personalised gifts and thought this Engagement print would make a lovely present for anyone who got engaged in the run up to the festive period. It’s also available in ‘Sister’, ‘Best Friend’ and ‘Favourite Person’
Engagement print is available to order here.

Another one of the products that caught my eye while browsing the Beautiful British Designs website is this prosecco candle, which you can order here.

IamRachel
As soon as you look at Rachel’s beautiful handmade jewellery, there is just something about it that just stands out. Whether it’s the bright colours or the geomertic designs any piece is sure to make a perfect gift for a loved one (or for yourself!)
Rachel works mostly with Enamel, Silver and Copper which gives her handcrafted products a wonderfully earthy feel. All products come in the most beautiful packaging and are sent promptly on ordering. Many of her pieces are classic and understated but there also a few that are really designed to pop. If you’re looking for an extra touch, why not order one of her Earring Baulbles to hang on the tree until the big day?
Rachel will be selling her jewellery at various Christmas events around the county during the festive season, check out her Facebook page for more information.

These copper and grey enamel earrings are really beautiful, I love the art deco style. You can find them on Etsy here.

I love this bright red necklace, perfect for the festive season – you can find it on etsy here.

Those among my friends will know that I have quite a dark sense of humour and that I have no shame in giving those I love slightly sweary/offensive/inappropriate gifts. So, I absolutely love it when I come across a small business that feels like they ‘get’ my warped sense of humour.
I first came across Sophie from Pack a Punch Designs at a Farm open day just outside the town where we’re both based. I actually ended up buying one of her cards for my husband and he loved it!
I love that her cards are relevant and often based around the most up to date pop culture – including Game of Thrones, Stranger Things and Harry Potter -ALL things I love.
If you think the more humorous/offensive products might not be for you then do not fear – Sophie also produces some lovely Family Wellie Boot prints (pictured below) a perfect personalized gift for Christmas.

This is the card I bought my husband earlier this year.

The Somerset Toiletry Co.
While they’ve been producing toiletries for more 30 years, it’s only been the last 16 they’ve traded under the Somerset Toiletry co. name. This has given them many years to hone their craft, while still producing the best quality products. They also understand that all customers are different and are looking for different things when they shop.
Having a good browse of the website I can see they cater to various tastes and budgets which is great. There’s everything from fun and funky to more classic and traditional looking products. I love the idea of purchasing a few individual items from The Somerset Toiletry Co. rather than buying a generic smellies sets from Boots – much more fun and much more interesting. Also the products they’ve sent me for the giveaway (see below) smell AMAZING! Eat your heart out Lush!
Below I’ve listed a couple of my favourites from the website.

I love these soaps (especially the ‘Mr. Hipster one!) You can find them here.

Because we all know a cat lover! Cat in the Hat Soap can be found here.
