If you’re a blogger then you might have at some point wondered whether or not you need business cards. While they are a must for many traditional businesses, as most blogging activities take place online, business cards might seem like a waste of time and money.

I was recently gifted some business cards from the team at Aura Print so in this post I am going to take a look at some of the reasons bloggers might actually need business cards and how they can come in handy when promoting your blog.

6 Reasons Bloggers Need Business Cards

If you’re a blogger and on the fence about ordering some business cards from somewhere like Aura Print, here are some ways they can come in handy when promoting your blog both online and offline.

Networking and Blogging Events

There are lots of blogging events and networking that take place throughout the year and it’s a great way to meet other bloggers as well as brands.

One of the places I’ve made the most use out of having business cards for my blog is at the annual U.K Money Bloggers conference and awards.

Part of the day involves meeting brands, who of course could become potential clients to work with on my blog.

Giving out business cards is so much easier than writing my name, blog name and email address and so on down over and over again and allows me to spend more time chatting with the brand reps.

Many brands also run competitions at these types of events and you’re usually asked to pop your business card in a bowl to be entered.

Upsell Your Skills

If you’re a blogger then you’ll know blogging is so much more than just writing. It’s social media, SEO, creating images, keyword research and recipe creation if you blog about food.

As well as blogging, many bloggers offer up these skills as an extra avenue for making money. Your business cards are the perfect place to upsell these skills.

Personally, I pick up a lot of freelance writing so thought this was worth mentioning on my business cards as you can see pictured below.

While I don’t think you should overwhelm your business cards with information, choosing a key skill related to blogging could help you land more work in that field.

Can Help With Branding

Having business cards that match your blog colours and branding can assure people they’ve found the right place when they look you up online.

I’ve changed my logo a couple of times since I started my blog so I decided not to include it on my business cards. However, I can’t see me changing my brand colours or my blog name as I have it trademarked.

Promote Your Blog Offline

The majority of the time spent promoting your blog is probably spent online and usually involves social media.

However, have you ever thought about the ways you can promote your blog offline? Having business cards could be a simple part of this and could genuinely attract more readers to your blog.

This post, 8 Ways To Promote Your Blog Offline has some great ideas on steps you take to promote your blog in the real world, rather than the online one.

Promoting Your Blog Online

Business cards can be a great tool for promoting your blog online too. You could create images for social media or your blog including your business cards to promote the fact you are open to working with brands.

Your business cards could also make a great image to be used on your work with me page.

Looks Professional

Sometimes as a blogger it can be hard for people to take you seriously, especially when it’s your main job or career choice.

‘Oh, you can make money from that?’

‘Do you just get loads of free stuff?’

‘That’s not a real job’

Having business cards instantly make you look more professional and give you more credibility.

Aura Print Review – My New Business Cards

I’ve recently been gifted some business cards from Aura Print which you can take a look at below.

As you can see I decided to stick with my brand colours, no logo (as I’m always changing it!) and not too much information. I wanted to keep them as simple as possible but still looking like they belonged to a legitimate business!

The quality of these business cards is fantastic, they are lovely and thick and don’t feel like they would easily get damaged or bent out of shape.

They genuinely feel professional and I can’t wait to be able to hand them out when I finally get back to some blogging events!

How To Design Your Business Cards With Aura Print

If you’re worried about designing your business cards then there’s no need.

Aura print can help with this when you choose to use their design service or you can design them yourself and simply send them over to Aura Print in a PDF.

There are loads of different designs to help get you inspired on the Aura Print website.

You’ll also need to decide what type of business card to go for – whether you want something double-sided, a matt or a gloss finish.

Aura Print even offers square and round-edge business cards too. If you want to be more eco-conscious you could also choose to have your business cards made from recycled materials.

When it comes to designing your business cards it’s worth thinking about what information you want to include and what can be left out.

Here are some things I think should be included on your business cards:

  • One or two of your blogs. If you have more than two I’d leave the others off or create a personal brand website in your own name where you can cover all of your other websites and related skills.
  • Main email address.
  • Phone number.
  • Logo or brand name.
  • Brand colours.
  • Main Social media account if it’s a big part of your blog, you have a large following (eg. 10K plus) or particularly shows off your skills, such as stunning Instagram images.

And for an extra flourish:

  • Consider including a QR code that goes to your blog.

Things not to include:

  • Every social media account especially ones people are unlikely to look up, such as Pinterest.
  • More than one email address as this could be confusing.
  • Your home address. You could include a PO box if you really want to be generally I just don’t think this is necessary for bloggers.

Before you send your design off to be printed with Aura Print it’s worth checking the following:

  • Double-check spellings and phone numbers for accuracy.
  • Make sure fonts are clear and easy to read.
  • Colours match those used on your blog. If unsure there are colour matching tools you can use.

I would definitely recommend using Aura print when you need to order business cards for your blog.
