How To Make A Cheap DIY Wedding Hangover Kit
This post may contain Affiliate Links
Hangover recovery kit, Hangover cure kit, Hangover rescue bag – whatever you want to call it, these little DIY goody bags make an excellent and fun wedding favour.
I made 40 DIY Wedding Hangover kits for my wedding along with a DIY Harry Potter Sweet Table instead of more traditional wedding favours.
The first thing I want to be very clear about here is that you don’t need wedding favours. They are a lovely tradition but are not worth spending lots of money on, especially as they often get left behind.
However, if it’s something you’ve budgeted for and want to do, a wedding hangover kit is a great way to go.
Plus, if lots do get left behind then it’s full of stuff you’d probably use at home anyway, rather than trying to figure out what to do with 50 leftover packets of sugared almonds.

My Hangover Kit Wedding Favours
As I mentioned above, this was something I made for my wedding back in 2016.
We made 24 bags for our 40ish guests and there weren’t any left the next day.
We put double everything in some bags to save on bags and stickers and labelled them as being for couples instead of an individual.

The great thing about wedding hangover kits is that they can be made up well ahead of time and as long as they are kept in a cool, dry place they should be fine – one less thing to stress about in the run-up to the big day!
What To Put In A Wedding Hangover Kit
Here are some ideas of what to put in your hangover kits. The content will need to vary depending on your budget and what is available.
- Bottles of Water or Ginger Ale
- Paracetamol
- Tums
- Mints or Chewing gum
- Tea bag/coffee sachet/UHT Milk
- Biscuits or Sweets
- Minipack of Face Wipes
- Eye Mask
- Chapstick
- Paper Sick Bag
- Mini Bottles of Alcohol for a ‘hair of the dog’ (definitely not a budget option!)
Wedding Hangover Kit Ideas
There are loads of different ways to go about creating DIY wedding hangover kits depending on the look you want to go for and whether you want to tie things in with your theme.
The ones we made for our wedding were pretty basic and we used kraft paper bags we already had so we only bought the fairly cheap content and some personalized stickers to explain what they were.
As we got married in a manor house, most of our guests stayed over so we placed them on the landing so our guests would see them on their way to bed.
If you are looking to create a super-budget hangover kit here are some items that might be useful:
- Kraft Paper Bags
- Coloured Paper Bags
- Bottled Water (this link is Amazon Pantry but supermarket would probably be a similar price)
- Individually wrapped Biscuits I’ve linked to lotus biscoff as that’s what we used, but these can also be found in Poundland etc.
- Mini Haribo
- Mini Packs of Tictacs
- Paracetamol – we were able to buy in bulk at a cash and carry but if buying individually you may need to make a few trips! Super cheap 30p packs are fine. We then cut them up and put two in each bag.
- Personalized labels
These Kraft bags are slightly more expensive than the ones mentioned above but they are very weddingy.
You could also opt for these super budget bags from Home Bargains.

And these pre-made hangover kits are perfect if you decide the DIY option isn’t for you. I love these bags too but they are not a cheap option!
And Finally . . .
Make sure your wedding hangover kits are left somewhere guests will find them, such as by the door with a clear sign saying they can take them.
If possible, designate someone to make sure everyone gets given one – you don’t want to be left with hundreds the next day!
