Some brides may have a venue in mind, somewhere they’ve wanted to get married since they were young. Others may be starting completely from scratch. And then there’s the deal breaker –the cost.
At first glance, some wedding venues may seem incredibly expensive. If you’re on a really tight budget it may be worth giving these a ‘no’ from the get-go as it’s never worth getting into debt for your wedding.
If your budget has a little more give, it’s still worth coming up with an amount you’re happy to spend on a venue that still leaves room for the cost of everything else, such as the dress, suits, invites and so on.
So whether you’re looking for Berkshire wedding venues, Surrey wedding venues or wedding venues in Hampshire (or any other part of the country for that matter!) it is possible to find your dream wedding venue no matter what your budget is.
Look at What The Venue Actually Offers For Your Money
One way to gauge whether or not the venue is offering good value for money is to take a really close look at what you’re getting for your money and compare it to other local venues that offer roughly the same thing. A lot of venues offer a range of packages – some might be more expensive but include absolutely everything needed for your big day – from the photographer to the flowers, the food and even a DJ for the evening.
Some wedding venues may offer more basic packages where you’ll need to do more of the organizational leg work yourself.
It all depends on your budget – couples may wish to save money by sourcing the majority of the things needed themselves. This gives you the opportunity to shop around and leave out thing you may not want. It can also be very time consuming and stressful so it’s worth weighing up which is more important or coming up with a balance that you are happy with.
Wedding Venue On A Budget: Think About When You’re Getting Married
The day of the week and time of year you get married can make a huge difference to the cost. Typically Saturday’s during June, July and August are the most expensive days to get married. Sunday’s tend to come in a little cheaper – consider booking a Sunday that falls before a bank holiday Monday if you’re worried about guests needing to take time off work.
Weekdays often come in cheaper again, although whether friends and family could attend needs to be considered – I did think about this for my own wedding but one of my bridesmaids works in a school and wouldn’t have been able to attend if it had been during term time.
Winter weddings are often cheaper than summer weddings and can be just as beautiful – especially if you are lucky enough to get snow. A Christmas theme could look really beautiful too. And remember, getting married in the summer in no way guarantees good weather, (I had torrential rain during my September wedding!) or even sunshine, so think carefully when choosing your wedding day and date.
Think Outside The Box
It can pay to think outside the box when it comes to your dream wedding venue.

In the Woods?
While current U.K law states the official part of a wedding has to take place in a licenced structure, there’s nothing to stop you doing the legal bit in a registry office – either in the morning or a day or two before – and the getting married wherever you like.
This is actually what usually happens on Don’t tell the Bride as the contestants aren’t given enough time to officially get registered to get married.
Haggle
It’s definitely worth trying to haggle with your venue if you can – especially if there is part of the wedding you want to provide yourself or if you’d prefer something a little less fancy for the wedding breakfast (no-one actually needs a three-course wedding meal and afternoon tea can be just as lovely!)
Also if your wedding is last minute there should be plenty of room for savings to be made – venues love to fill up unused dates and fill in dates that have been cancelled. If you are booking your wedding within the next eight weeks it’s definitely worth asking for a discount.
