This Black Friday I’ve teamed up with Keepmoat to bring you my top tips for saving money and finding the best deals, especially when you’re thinking about kitting out your new home.
If you’ve recently made a house purchase you’ll more than likely have a big list of things you’re going to need to buy to get it feel like a home. This will probably include big-ticket items such as dishwashers, cookers, sofas and beds to household tech items like televisions and the latest smart speakers.
How to Get The Best Deals On Black Friday
Buying everything you need can easily run into the thousands so Black Friday really is the perfect opportunity to find huge discounts on a wide range of products. Whether shopping online, instore or even at small independent shops there will no doubt be some amazing deals on November 29th.
Getting Ready for Black Friday
Black Friday deals do seem to start earlier and earlier each year – with many shops already boasting plenty of deals today ahead of the main event this coming Friday.
Searching out the best deals every day can be tedious and pretty time consuming, especially if you’ve been at work all day and just want to chill. It’s definitely worth signing up to the newsletters of places you think you’ll be likely to buy homeware from: for me personally these would include big brands like AO, Argos, Curry’s, Debenhams, Dunelm, John Lewis, TK Maxx and Wayfair.

Signing up to your favourite brands means you’ll get the best deals delivered straight to your inbox to browse when you’re ready. It’s worth setting a maximum price that you are happy to pay for each item and if you manage to get it for less, then brilliant!
Black Friday Cashback
Another way to prepare for Black Friday is by signing up for a cashback website. Top Cashback and Quidco are the U.Ks biggest two cashback websites and they offer money back when shopping via their site. Cashback rates do vary quite a bit by brand but if you’re planning on spending thousands you could end up getting a big chunk back. As a quick example, I earned over £100 back on my Disneyworld holiday and the price I paid was exactly the same.
Amazon Prime customers often get exclusive Black Friday deals so it’s worth signing up for the Free 30 Day Trial over the Black Friday weekend so you can take advantage of these. Do remember to cancel the subscription before the end of the month if it’s not a service you’ll continue to use as you’ll be charged an ongoing £7.99 per month.
Am I Really Getting A Good Deal?
There are loads of different tricks retailers use to make us think we’re getting a good deal – for example – Argos are notorious for hiking the price of their toys right before they go on 3 for 2. Often the toys end up being cheaper elsewhere, where there are no offers on.
If there are specific items you plan on buying, it’s worth making a list of them and the current retail price or any recent offers. When Black Friday and Cyber Monday come around you’ll have a nice clear point of reference to see whether a discount is really as good as it seems.
Price History
In addition to the advice above, you could also use a price history tool – such as the one at www.idealo.co.uk. This tool will tell you the price history for an item for the last year and make it easy to see if the price was hiked and then ‘slashed’ for Black Friday. You can also set up price alerts for when products reach a certain price – perfect if you’ve decided on a maximum you’d like to pay.
The Best Items to Buy on Black Friday
Tech items are by far the biggest and most popular sellers on Black Friday and will see some of the largest discounts. Tech includes everything from televisions, smart speakers and whole entertainment systems to laptops, tablets and even games consoles.
Household appliances also see hefty reductions so look out for washing machines, cookers dishwashers and fridge-freezers and microwaves being discounted by the big brand retailers and probably some of the supermarkets too.
Currys
Currys was actually one of the biggest players last year when it came to Black Friday discounts and it’s very likely this year will be the same. With that in mind, they should be the first port of call for finding discounts on household appliances. It’s worth popping into your local curry’s and taking a look around. . . if there are items stacked up in large quantities its likely these will be going on offer soon!
John Lewis
John Lewis is famous for price matching their competitors, which makes them a brilliant place to shop on Black Friday because even if they are usually a little more expensive. Additionally, if you find a lower price within 28 days they will match it as long as the retailer isn’t online-only (this would discount retailers such as Amazon and AO).
John Lewis is also very well known for offering extended warranties – for example, they offer a five-year warranty on all televisions they sell – this can be as much as four years longer than the standard manufacturers guarantee, meaning it could well be worth paying a little bit extra for peace of mind.

Finding Amazon Discounts
Amazon is well known for offering huge Black Friday discounts as the company is originally from the USA where Back Friday started. Recent years have seen up to 40% off Amazon’s own tech range such as Amazon’s Smart speaker Alexa and the Amazon Fire.
Based on searching for deals the last few Black Fridays, I would expect to see household items such as cake mixers, pots and pan sets and kitchen knives, smart plugs and even power tools in Amazons lightning deals which run throughout the day.
Amazon actually offers an incredible range of homeware – there are sofas, dining table and chair sets, even washing machines as well as hundreds of accessories so it may be worth taking a browse and creating a wishlist of everything you’ll be looking out for in the Black Friday sales so you can easily find it again.
Black Friday Deals with AO
Last year on Black Friday AO offered a price promise: if prices dropped further after your purchase, they would refund you the difference. As companies will try to outdo each other and prices can fluctuate a lot over the Black Friday weekend. This is a great deal to look out for and reassurance you’ll pay the best price, especially as AO already offer very competitive prices.
Black Friday is the perfect time to get buying items for your new home – whatever you need there is likely to be an offer on that item somewhere and you could end up saving significant amounts of money!
