Free Things To Do In Las Vegas For Couples

Las Vegas has a reputation for being an expensive destination, but you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a great time in Sin City. There are actually plenty of things to see and do that won’t cost you a penny.
We visited Las Vegas as a couple on our honeymoon and were surprised by just how much we could do without constantly reaching for our wallets. These were some of our favourite free things to do in Las Vegas, along with a few other free attractions worth adding to your itinerary.
Walk the Las Vegas Strip
Okay, so this is a pretty obvious one, but why wouldn’t you walk the Strip when you’re in Vegas?
It’s actually surprisingly easy to get distracted and find yourself dipping in and out of hotels, shops and restaurants. If you’re trying to keep your Las Vegas trip on a budget, walking is a great way to see the sights without spending anything.
The Strip is huge, so you probably won’t want to walk from one end to the other in one go, but exploring it on foot gives you a real sense of just how enormous Las Vegas is.
And there is plenty to stop and look at along the way, from the famous hotels to street performers and the various themed areas.
We particularly enjoyed wandering around the LINQ Promenade, where you can take a break and do some people watching.
See the Bellagio Fountains
The Bellagio Fountains are one of the most famous attractions in Las Vegas – and thankfully, they are completely free.
The choreographed water show takes place in front of the Bellagio and combines music with more than 1,000 fountains, some of which send water hundreds of feet into the air. Shows currently run every 30 minutes during the afternoon and every 15 minutes in the evenings, although timings vary by day.
It’s one of those things that feels like it should cost money in Vegas, but doesn’t.
For the best view, find a spot along Las Vegas Boulevard or one of the bridges overlooking the fountains.
Visit the Bellagio Conservatory
The Bellagio has another free attraction that is well worth adding to your itinerary: the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens.
This huge indoor space is filled with elaborate seasonal displays made from thousands of plants and flowers. The displays change throughout the year, so there is something different to see depending on when you visit.
It’s a lovely place to wander around as a couple and makes a nice change from the bright lights and noise of the Strip.
And, most importantly for this article, it’s free.
Explore Las Vegas’ Themed Hotels
One of the things we loved about Las Vegas was wandering around the different hotels.
If you can resist the temptation of the casinos and shops, there is so much to see inside many of the resorts. The theming is incredible and varies so much that it feels like taking a mini tour around the world.
Some of our favourites were Luxor, New York-New York, Paris and Caesars Palace.
You can also visit The Venetian and wander through the Grand Canal Shoppes, where the architecture and canals are designed to recreate the feel of Venice.
You won’t get a free gondola ride, obviously, but you can enjoy the atmosphere without spending anything.
Explore The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace
If you can resist the temptation of the very expensive shops – I’ll admit these were way out of our budget anyway – The Forum Shops are a lovely place to wander around.
The Roman-inspired theming, fountains, statues and huge ceiling make it feel more like an attraction than an ordinary shopping centre.
There is also a free Fall of Atlantis show, featuring animatronic characters, fire and water effects. Show times can change, so check the current schedule before you visit.
Visit the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat
You might not expect to find a peaceful wildlife area in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip, but that’s exactly what you’ll find at the Flamingo.
The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat is a four-acre garden at the Flamingo Las Vegas, home to Chilean flamingos, parrots, turtles, koi, swans and ducks, as well as waterfalls and other water features.
It’s completely free to visit and offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the Strip.
And yes, there are actual flamingos. Obviously.
Visit M&M’s World
Another one for chocolate lovers is M&M’s World, located on the Strip near the MGM Grand.
There are four floors dedicated to M&Ms, with plenty of colourful displays and photo opportunities. You can also see the M&M characters and watch a free 3D movie.
You don’t have to buy anything – although I won’t pretend that walking through four floors of M&M merchandise makes resisting temptation particularly easy.
Spend an Evening on Fremont Street
It’s worth heading downtown to experience the Fremont Street Experience.
The five-block pedestrian area is covered by the enormous Viva Vision LED canopy, which puts on regular light shows, and there is free live entertainment too. The Viva Vision system was upgraded in 2024, so this is one part of the original article that has had a pretty impressive makeover since our visit.
It’s also a great place for people watching. Las Vegas certainly doesn’t lack interesting characters!
Getting downtown isn’t free, of course, so you’ll need to factor in your transport costs. But once you’re there, you can spend an evening enjoying the atmosphere without paying for a show.
Take a Photo at the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign
You can’t go to Las Vegas without taking a photo at the famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign.
It’s at the southern end of the Strip and has dedicated parking and pedestrian access, making it relatively easy to visit.
It’s a very simple activity, but it’s one of those holiday photos you’ll probably be glad you took.
Explore The LINQ Promenade
The LINQ Promenade is another good place to wander around without spending money.
Obviously, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and paid attractions that will try to tempt you, but you can simply enjoy the atmosphere, street entertainment and various photo opportunities.
It’s also a useful place to stop for a rest if you’re walking along the Strip.
Visit Ethel M Chocolates & the Cactus Garden
If you’re willing to venture away from the Strip, Ethel M Chocolates in Henderson has a rather unusual free attraction.
The three-acre Botanical Cactus Garden contains more than 300 species of plants and is free to visit, along with the self-guided factory viewing area.
If you’re visiting around Christmas, this becomes even more interesting. The cactus garden is decorated with more than a million lights during its annual holiday display. Just check the current arrangements before visiting, as some seasonal events have an entry fee.
Las Vegas Doesn’t Have to Be Expensive
One of the things I love about Las Vegas is that you can make your trip as expensive or as budget-friendly as you want.
There are certainly plenty of opportunities to spend money – and lots of them are very tempting! But you can also spend your days exploring the hotels, watching the fountains, seeing the free shows and simply soaking up the atmosphere without constantly paying for attractions.
If you’re visiting as a couple, I think that’s one of the best things about Las Vegas. You don’t necessarily need a packed itinerary of expensive experiences to have a brilliant time together.
