Travelling, and enjoying the benefits of fun-filled day trips while you’re at it, can be pretty expensive. It’s no wonder then, that domestic holidaygoers are looking to save as much money as possible! Fortunately, we know just the travel hacks you need.

We’ve all been there, wanting to enjoy our holiday but not sure whether we have the funds to cut it. These are the tips and tricks we’ve taken from our own experiences, and compiled them just for you! Protect the money in your pocket, and don’t have a heart attack when checking your bank account.

1. Visit attractions close together

Travelling around London, trying to see all there is too see, is one expense that adds up – fast! Consider visiting attractions that are close together.

Planning your itinerary well in advance can save time and money when your vacation rolls around. Visiting two or three attractions a day, in close proximity, is a wise choice. Popular sites (close together, of course!) include the Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the Tate Modern.

2. Invest in an ‘Oyster Card’

There’s one major way to get around in London when you do need to travel further, and that’s the London Underground.

This metro system is one of the biggest mass transit systems in the world, with trains first running in 1863! Get acquainted with the Tube, by buying an Oyster Card: a plastic card that can be updated with credit, and tapped on readers at the stations to pay your fare without fuss. These cost-effective cards can be nabbed at any Underground station in London.

3. Give cycling a try

Made famous as the ‘Boris bikes’, London has a popular cycle hire scheme currently in action. There are over 11,000 Boris bikes in London, and they’re available at only £2 for 24 hours! There’s no cheaper, speedier way to get around London. So, why don’t you give cycling a try?

Many car drivers are at risk of congestion charges and hefty traffic, so it’s best to cycle when visiting London’s infamous tourist attractions – that is, when you’re not making use of your Oyster Card.

4. Go beyond the usual ‘Tourist’ zones

Travelling is always cheaper when you think outside the box. We’d advise exploring beyond the city centre. Although the usual touristy stuff is really fun, you miss out on the true spirit of London and, this spirit tends to be a lot cheaper, too!

The borough of Richmond has a beautiful park and inviting riverside pubs, and Shoreditch has so many funky bars, restaurants and plenty of entertainment on offer.

See a different side of the city, at a lower cost.

5. Choose your hotel wisely

Whenever you travel, accommodation usually takes the cake for being the most expensive outgoing you have. This doesn’t change when it comes to London. Hotels can be really expensive, so it’s best to choose your hotel wisely.

Opt for a 4 star hotel in London that’s affordable, located in the heart of the city. With often surprisingly low costs, there’s no better place to settle down whilst you explore all that London has to offer. Contemporary, chic and cheap – what’s not to love? Start enjoying London on a budget, today.
