We all love a good date night, whether its with the other half or a close friend. Just taking the time to chat without thinking about every day stresses and let our hair down occasionally. Whether it is a weekly or monthly thing, it is important that we spend that one on one time with our nearest and dearest.
If you need to watch the purse strings or if you just prefer to be savvier with your cash then there are so many ways to get that all important time together, without breaking the bank. Some may think that it isn’t romantic to use money saving techniques when going out on a date. When you feel comfortable together or you agree with your friends that you need to save and are looking for a cheap night out, it makes things so much easier.
Here I show you 10 Savvy date night ideas that are tried and tested and guaranteed to save you that hard earned cash.
1. Picnic under the stars
Obviously, it would have to be a nice night, but even in the winter you can dress for the weather by wearing extra layers. Buy a few nibbles to take along and find a scenic area such as a park, beach or river and spread out your blanket. You could even pack some wine and a couple of glasses too.
2. 2 for 1 Cinema & Meal
Take out a 1-day UK travel insurance with Compare the Market for a couple of pounds and get Meerkat Movies free for one year. So, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays you can get a Meerkat Movies code on 2 for 1. This now includes Meerkat Meals, which are mainly buy one get one free at numerous restaurants throughout the UK. A few restaurants included in the offer are Frankie & Benny’s, Zizzi, and Prezzo and these can be used as many times per week as you like Sunday to Thursday. Perfect for date night!
3. Romantic meal at home
We all know about this one, but how often do we do it? Sit at the table together (if you have one) or set up a carpet picnic of your favourite foods. This is always a hit and very cheap compared to eating out. Meal deals are very popular now for couples wishing to stay in. My daughter and her partner bought meal deals as a substitute for going out when they were saving for a house and not wanting to do all the prep and washing up. Supermarkets such as Tesco, M & S and Sainsburys all do meal deals with starters, mains, sides, desserts and wine at a fraction of the cost of eating out.
4. Sign up for Newsletters
Sign up for the newsletters of your favourite places and they will send you anything worth sending to entice you in. There are some large discounts to be had from newsletter sign ups, especially at restaurants. Also, they may ask for your date of birth and send you something extra special for your birthday. We get offered lots of buy one get one free or 50% off offers through newsletters, at places that we know and love.
Buying deals from places like Groupon and Wowcher is a great idea. They have so many offers for meals, afternoon tea and experiences, that you are bound to find something that suits. I have bought many of these deals and if you read the small print, they are fab. Spa days are also very popular on these sites and offer very large discounts.
6. Film night
Get the snacks in, choose a film and snuggle up. One of our favourite past times has got to be one of the cheapest! Savvy snack suggestions could be popcorn, humous and crudités, chocolate, nachos and nuts. All these options can be bought for pennies if you want to make it as heap as possible.
7. Free Festivals and Concerts
There are so many free Festivals and concerts if you google it. Find something in your area or if you don’t mind putting a bit of fuel in the car then go further afield. Check parking charges before you go so that you don’t get caught out and go to something free and live. It will be an experience that you will remember and a fraction of the cost of going to any other paid concert.
8. Walk by the river
Go for a walk by the river, Sea or lake in your local area. Something about water makes for a relaxed atmosphere and you can chat freely while taking a walk. You can always stop off for a quick drink (it won’t break the bank). This type of date just gives you a bit of breathing space and time together which is what it is all about.
9. Free coffee vouchers
Why not just go out for free and pop out for a coffee together? Many places do loyalty vouchers such as Mcdonalds and Starbucks and you can eventually cash them in for freebies! Grab a bit of time alone by popping along and cashing in your free coffees. Collect Mcdonalds coffee stickers on all hot drinks packaging and take your completed card along for a freebie.
10. Tell them it’s your birthday
When going out to a restaurant, especially on a special occasion like your birthday, then let them know. Most of the time they will give you something for free such as a dessert or drink, may be even a discount. Some places make huge gestures with all singing and dancing waiters/ waitresses if you are up for it! Drop it in to general conversation with the waiter or waitress and they may put a good word in. We have done this many times, and it really does work.
