As we’re all trying to be more eco-friendly, I thought I’d take a look at things we can do with leftover wallpaper. We often buy too much as it can be hard to decide how much we’re actually going to need and don’t want to be left in a situation where we can’t buy any more!
10 Uses for Leftover Wallpaper
Decorating can be expensive, even when you’re trying to do things on a budget, the costs can soon mount up. Buying secondhand can help reduce the impact on the environment but it’s not unusual to end up with some things leftover too such as paint and wallpaper. Here are my tips for using up leftover wallpaper and making sure it doesn’t go to waste.
1. Sell Your Leftover Wallpaper
The first thing you could try doing with your leftover wallpaper is selling it, especially if you have rolls that are unopened and are unable to return them, for example, if you no longer have a receipt.
While you probably won’t get quite what you paid for it, it’s still a great way to recoup some of the money. Facebook marketplace is probably the best place to start with this as people will be happy to collect. eBay would be a great option for more expensive wallpaper or wallpaper that has sold out and people might be struggling to get hold of.

2. Donate Your Leftover Wallpaper
There are lots of places you could donate leftover wallpaper. Try finding local projects that might be helping out those who struggling or are starting over and don’t have much. You could also donate to community projects that might be able to use it if they’re doing somewhere up for local families to use.
3. Use Your Leftover Wallpaper For A Feature Wall
If you only have one or two rolls left it could still be enough for a small feature wall in another room. The leftover wallpaper could be used to cover a small area such as a box room, chimney breast or alcove.
4. Use Leftover Wallpaper For Decoupage

5. Use Your Leftover Wallpaper To Revamp Furniture
As well as using leftover wallpaper for decoupage, there are other ways it can be used to revamp furniture. Wallpaper can be placed behind or underneath glass to allow the pattern to show through. I actually have a set of small side tables where the glass can be lifted out and paper placed underneath. This means they can be changed often and with little effort if I fancy a bit of a revamp.
6. Leftover Wallpaper Can Be Used To Line Drawers

7. Leftover Wall Paper Makes A Perfect Photography Background
If you have a small business or blog wallpaper can make an amazing background for when you take photographs and is something I use a lot, particularly for my food blog. I actually have an entire drawer full of different wallpaper samples rolled up for different projects. If it’s not something that you’ll personally use in this way, why not try asking friends and family if they could make use of it.
8. Leftover Wallpaper? Get Yourself A Refund
Return it to the store for a refund If you have unopened rolls of wallpaper and the receipt from the store you bought them from you can return it for a full refund if you’re within the time stated in the store’s return policy.
9. You Could Use Leftover Wallpaper For Crafting
If you have kids that love to craft the wallpaper can have a multitude of uses. Cut up into different size squares and pieces for use in collages. If they are old enough to use scissors and the wallpaper has a pattern they could try cutting the various different shapes, animals or flowers.
You could also cut the wallpaper into jigsaw-shaped pieces and then reassemble it, this should work well as the wallpaper is quite thick.
It’s also worth taking a look at Pinterest for ideas – there are tutorials for everything from envelopes made from vintage wallpaper to make beautiful butterflies.
10. Use Leftover Wallpaper As Kid’s Drawing Paper
If all else fails, and you can’t think of anything else to do with your leftover wallpaper, turn it over, roll it out and let the children (if you have any) draw on the back of it. This means it will at least get used instead of being thrown away!
