Budget Friendly Seaside Themed Garden Ideas

As spring approaches, lots of us may well be thinking about sprucing up our gardens. Personally, I love a garden with a theme to give it some character and pull everything together. In this post, I am going be looking at ways you can create a seaside themed garden while sticking to a tight budget.
Budget Seaside Themed Garden Ideas
Rope
There are lots of ways rope can be used in a beach-themed garden. The most obvious way is using it to create fencing around paths or decking areas. Cheap rope can be purchased online making it a brilliant option for those updating their garden with limited funds. Rope can also be used to create feature ‘knots’ which hang from various areas in the garden, for creating tyre seats and for hanging or decorating other garden accessories.
Painting Sheds & Fences
Painting is one of the quickest and cheapest ways to give your garden an update. White is the best colour to use to give a seaside feel although you could also choose some pastel shades, such as a pale mint green or go full nautical with blue and navy stripes. You could also take inspiration from the multicoloured beach huts found in many popular British seaside resorts.
Seaside Plants
There are lots of plants that can be bought quite cheaply to give a lovely seaside vibe to your garden, these include
- Rosemary – plant near paths and doors to appreciate the smell as you walk by
- Sea Kale (Crambe Maritima) – Has a lovely green/silver sheen, perfect foliage
- Sea Lavander – Add colour with its tiny purple blooms
- South American verbena – Bright flowers give an English country garden feel.
- Red Hot Pokers – Add both colour and height
Relax With A Hammock
Adding a hammock will really give your garden that beachy feel, plus you can use to relax and soak up the sun. No trees? No problem! Just remember to purchase a hammock stand along with your hammock.
Gathering Pebbles and Shells
Before you rush to the nearest beach to collect pebbles and seashells, it’s worth remembering it’s technically illegal to remove these from the beach. The best bet is buying them from a garden centre or shops located at your local seaside resort. I’ve actually found shells collected from the beach can be a bit smelly so buying ones that have been properly cleaned isn’t a terrible idea!
Shingle
For the full seaside effect, ditch the grass and opt for shingle instead. Shingle is low maintenance so you can say goodbye to the lawnmower and enjoy the pleasant crunch of stone beneath your feet.
Adult Sand Pit
However, if it’s the feeling of the sand between your toes you’re missing, an Adult Sandpit might be just thing for you to enjoy in your seaside themed garden. Essentially, it’s a custom-built decked area, with the middle part slightly lower so it can be filled with sand. These sandpits come in various shapes and sizes and can include extras such as a fire pit, perfect for toasting marshmallows and singing campfire songs.
Seaside Accessories
There are so many ways to include seaside accessories in your garden, you might struggle to decide which to choose! I like the idea of stringing up Fishermans nets across fences and these can be purchased quite cheaply from eBay, coming in at around a fiver.
Driftwood isn’t the easiest to come by, but if you do find some it can make a lovely sculpture or focal point for a beach-themed garden. If you come across any unwanted surfboards they can also make a lovely feature placed up against a shed or fence.
When it comes to seating areas, there are lots of different ways you could choose to bring the seaside into your garden. Deckchairs would, of course, give a lovely beachy feel. If your budget stretches to it, there are some beautiful boat-shaped arbours available online, along with hammocks and sail-shaped awnings to provide some shade.
