To be completely honest, design isn’t my strongest point. I can’t draw for toffee and making perfect Pinterest pins isn’t something that comes naturally to me.

When it comes to being creative, writing is where I flourish and after twelve years as a chef, I can make any plate of food look amazing. But when it comes to colour palettes, logos and making things look pretty, I get a bit lost.

How To Keep Your Blog Branding Consistent

As I write this, I’m currently in the process of completely redesigning my whole website – updating the theme and changing every single graphic so they have the same colours and fonts. With over 300 posts it’s an enormous task that so far has taken me several weeks.

It’s definitely something I wish I had thought more about in the beginning and been much more consistent with. It’s definitely one of those blogging tasks to do when you don’t have too much on!

I’m actually in the process of starting two new blogs and I’m determined to keep branding consistent from the start on those!

Whether you’re starting out as a blogger like me, you run a small business or even a non-profit organization, there may come a time when you need to start thinking about branding and want to design and create a logo.

There are plenty of online tools that will allow you to do this and getting started might actually be easier than you think.

And of course, creating a logo online is much cheaper than paying a graphic designer to do it for you, especially if you only want something simple. You could even consider using a logo maker to keep things nice easy.

4 Tips For Keeping Your Blog Branding Consistent

1. Keep Your Colour Palette And Fonts Simple

Choose a simple colour palette of two or three colours that work well together and stick to them. Make a note of the colour’s name/number so you can find them at a later stage or in a different programme if needed. Font pairings can be tricky – it’s worth having a google and making a note of those that go together to refer back to later.

2. Use The Same Colours And Branding Across Social Media

Use the same colours, logo and images across all of your social media profiles. This will make it easier for potential customers/readers to find you if they recognise your logo or picture.

3. Use Canva To Help With Branding

Programmes like Canva make branding easy – for example, you could set up a Pinterest pin in your chosen font and colours and then create a copy to work on simply changing the image and wording but keeping everything else the same.

Canva also lets you save branded colours together and suggests compatible colours if you’re unsure of what works. There are also loads of Pinterest and Instagram templates ready to be edited into your colours.

Personally, I think it’s worth paying for Canva pro for all of the extras it provides and you can have up to five people on one account if you need to share the cost.

4. Create A Logo Or Monogram Online

Having a logo that you can create and edit yourself makes resizing easy for wherever you might want to use it.

While initially, you might think you won’t use it often, the list does soon start to build up; from website branding and email signatures to business cards, leaflets and flyers, even company vehicles. Having easy access is a must.

Once you have a logo designed, it is also worth creating a Digital Monogram with your company or organization’s initials too. Logos tend to have a longer text that might not always fit the way you would like it in some instances.

For example, on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, you would use your logo as your header or cover picture. However, this is usually much too large to use in the smaller profile picture section, which is usually round. A monogram of your business initials would be a much better fit.

Monogram Maker is the perfect design tool for creating this quickly and easily from the comfort of your own home. There are plenty of fonts and frames to choose from, so finding something that fits with your business should be pretty easy. Another great use of your digital monogram is to use it as the site icon on your website, the small square that shows at the top of an open tab.

Digital Logos Are Easy To Update

While it’s important for branding to be consistent, there are going to be times when you might want to update, rebrand or change colour schemes. This can be done with a few clicks and without having to go back and forth with a graphic designer. Plus you can tweak and change as much as you like without having to pay anything, which is a bonus.

Once you get started with designing monograms online, it’s easy to get a bit carried away and start designing them for everything and everyone! They can actually be used for a multitude of projects such as wedding stationery, headed letter writing paper, and even embroidery.

Make The Most Of Your Logo

Once you have a logo, it’s not just your blog and socials you can use it for. Think about adding it to your email signature, on invoices and on any non-digital products you create such as business cards.

Whether you're starting out as a blogger like me, you run a small business or even a non-profit organization, there may come a time when you need to start thinking about branding and want to design and create a logo. There are plenty of online tools that will allow you to do this and getting started might actually be easier than you think
