Are Luxury Kitchen Gadgets Worth It?

After spending a great many years working in the catering industry, I have a bit of an addiction to buying kitchen gadgets – but do these luxury kitchen gadgets really provide value for money?
Anyone that knows me know how much I love to cook. Since leaving my job as a chef I feel I’ve got my passion back for cooking and have been making the effort to cook from scratch at home each night rather than living off takeaways as we did before.
Are Luxury Kitchen Gadgets Worth It?
Along with this has come a bit of addiction to kitchen gadgets – with everything from fancy Juicers By Panasonic to trendy spiralizers on my hit list of what to buy next.
The problem is a lot of these luxury gadgets aren’t cheap and if I bought my entire luxury kitchen gadgetry wish-list it wouldn’t be long before the bill would be running into the thousands of pounds. That said, I am a firm believer in buying things that make our lives easier – we work really hard so the odd splurge on a little bit of luxury is fine – I just like to make sure I’m getting the best possible deal while I’m at it.
Here are my golden rules for deciding whether that Luxury Kitchen Gadget is worth the investment . . .
1.Branded VS Generic kitchen gadgets
There are so many different makes, models and brands out there that it can make knowing which luxury kitchen gadgets or appliances to choose really difficult. However, if you are going to have a splurge it’s often better to look for a branded product, such as Panasonic, and get the best possible deal on it rather than going for a cheaper imitation product. 
A good example of this is that both Wilko’s and Aldi have their own versions of a Luxury Branded Kitchen mixer. While these versions do cost considerably less than the real thing, if you plan on getting a lot of use out of it you may well be better off saving up for the branded version.
If it breaks down then the manufacturer should have no issues helping with repairs or parts. Also, the branded mixer has a fantastic reputation for being long-lasting – a family member of mine still has hers from the sixties!
2. Think About Price Per Use
If you do decide to splurge then it might also be worth looking at cost per use. If you love posh coffee and will use a fancy coffee machine every day then it’s well worth the investment, especially if you’d normally but that coffee from Starbucks or Costa – it could end up paying for itself in savings in just a couple of months.
If you buy a food processor, use it once, and then delegate it to the back of the cupboard it well may not be worth it. I tend to find gadgets that we keep out to get used a lot more – simply because they are there in front of us – my Mum and Dad don’t keep their toaster out and I always find it odd!
3. Will the Kitchen Gadget or Appliance make your life easier?
We all like a gadget that makes our life easier – pretty much every household in the in U.K has a washing machine, for example, because it’s easier than washing clothes by hand. Sometimes it’s worth splashing the cash for something that will make our lives just that little bit more enjoyable.
I would love a dishwasher. Unfortunately, we don’t have room for one in our kitchen. Yes, I am 100% capable of washing up the dishes myself – I just hate doing it and I would happily invest several hundred pounds in a top-of-the-range dishwasher if it meant never having to wash up again!
4. Could it help you make healthier choices?
Our health is always worth investing in, for both ourselves and our families.
If you’re struggling to get your kids to eat fruit and vegetables, a juicer or smoothie maker could well be the answer.
A good quality one is the answer here as often the cheaper ones aren’t strong enough to crush ice – so make sure you check for this function before you buy!
As someone who buys a lot of reduced fruit and vegetables, I find this a great way to use them up before they go off!
There are some gadgets i’ve found don’t really matter, but others definitely do. There was no difference in my £100 toasty machine and one that costs £15. My blender cost the family £160 but crushes everything, my £20 blender could barely blend pieces of watermelon.
I absolutely agree with you – sometimes it’s worth splurging on something you know will last and that can do the job properly, otherwise your just wasting money in the long run.
