Want to find the best straightener for curly hair? Love GHD hair straighteners but not the price? I use these instead and they come in at under £50.

When I started working full time the first thing I saved up for was a pair of GHD hair straighteners. I’m not hugely into beauty, but they were one of those things I had wanted for ages but had never been able to afford.

I thought they would be the answer to all my curly-haired problems and a massive pile of cheap crap straighteners that didn’t work well on my hair at all. They were one of the first things I ever bought online and cost around £100.

My precious new GHDs lasted around eighteen months before they broke. I immediately went out and bought another pair. These, thankfully, lasted a bit longer and I probably had them for around three years. My husband then bought me a super fancy pair of GHDs for Christmas one year which I still have and which still work. Probably because I have learned to love my curls and straighten my hair much less than I used too.

Because GHD hair straighteners are considered top of the range, it is implied that they will always do the best job. It turns out that, for me, this just isn’t true.

The Best Straightener For Curly Hair - Better Than GHDs

Time for a change

One of my best friends, who has equally curly hair, decided it might be time to try something different. She started scouring the internet for cheap but underrated hair straighteners. Eventually, she narrowed it down to just a few and decided to go for the cheapest, which at the time were only £40 (half price) in Boots.

My friend couldn’t believe how well they worked. Like me, she had spent years thinking GHD hair straighteners were the best because they are considered top of the range. The ones she had bought were actually better – the best straightener for curly hair that she’d ever used. So I  went out and bought a pair too (well, my husband bought me them for Christmas)

They really do work far better than GHDs, which now lie in a drawer gathering dust, and are the best straightener for curly hair that I’ve found.

BaByliss Diamond Straightener

So, what are these miracle hair straighteners you speak of, I hear you ask. Well you can find them here. They are the Diamond straighteners from BaByliss and in all honesty, without my friend’s recommendation, they are not ones I would have ever considered buying. But they really are fantastic. It takes much less time to straighten my hair and they get it straighter. The only person who can do a better job is my hair-dresser.

They are also much cheaper than GHD hair straighteners, currently retailing on Amazon for around £32. The cheapest pair of GHDs on Amazon are £89, so that’s a saving of around £60.

The BaByliss Diamond straighteners retail for £79 at Boots but I have seen them go half price on at least two occasions so this could be an option if you are looking to boost or use your points but are not in any rush to buy them from Amazon.

After using these for almost two years I don’t think I would ever go back to using GHDs as these are definitely the best straightener for curly hair I’ve come across.

All prices correct as of 13/03/19.
