- 2 Slices Bread Bread can be wholemeal or white
- Pate of your choice to serve
Remove the crusts from your bread (if you're looking for a way to use them up see this recipe) and cut each slice in half to create two rectangles. Using a bread a knife, very carefully slice each rectangle of bread into two much thinner slices. This can be a little bit tricky so do it slowly.
Take a rolling pin and roll over each slice until very thin.
Put the pieces of bread onto a baking tray and grill on medium for 2-3 minutes before turning and grilling for a further two minutes. As the bread is so thin it can burn easily so don't take your eyes off it - it's done when it starts to go golden brown. Appliances do vary so you may need to add a minute or two.
You could also make Melba Toast in the oven baking for around 10 minutes on gas mark 3 or 160c
Repeat as needed for as much Melba Toast as you want to make. Store in an airtight container for a day or two. Serve with Pate, soup, cheese or simply top with butter.
