The Christmas Tag – what I love most about Christmas
This post is the Christmas Tag – where lots of bloggers all get together and answer a few questions about the festive period – sharing their favorite memories and enabling their reader to get to know them a little better! Thanks to Lynn at Mrs Mummypenny for tagging me!
What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie?
The Muppet’s Christmas Carol without a doubt. It’s not really Christmas until we’ve watched it, and of course I know every word to every song. My favorite song is ‘It feels like Christmas’
I also Love Elf – we have a pizza party at my friend Rachel’s house each year where we get together and watch. Oh and then there’s the Home Alone films – the second film, Lost in New York is my favorite, mostly because it’s got Tim Curry in.
Have You Ever Had a White Christmas?
Yes. I’m wracking my brains to try and remember which year it was! I think it was 2010. Pete and I went to Cardiff a few days before Christmas to watch Tim Minchin and there was so much snow overnight we had to get the train home first thing as they didn’t know if there would be any more running throughout the day.
When we got back to Somerset though there was no snow. I think it did arrive in time for Christmas though!
Where Do You Usually Spend Your Holiday?
I don’t think I have ever been away for Christmas. So usually at home and we flit between our parents and various relatives houses depending on who’s got the best food!
While I don’t think I would like to go abroad for Christmas, I would love to spend it at Center Parcs one year. That’s the dream – it’s an expensive one, but hopefully one day we can manage it!
What Is Your Favourite Christmas Song?
Massive Cliche but it’s ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ Mariah Carey. I bloody love it. It came on when I was in the car with my best friend the other day and we both went full karaoke – it was amazing!
I also love ‘A space Man Came Traveling’ by Chris De Burgh for something a little more subdued!
Can You Name All of Santa’s Reindeer?
Yes. Dasher, Dancer, Donner, Blitzen, Cupid, Comet, Vixen, Prancer. And Rudolph.
For a bonus point ‘Donner and Blitzen’ means Thunder and Lightning in German.
What Holiday Traditions Are You Looking Forward to This Year?
As mentioned before, I love our annual Domino’s Pizza and Elf night, usually during the week before Christmas. It’s super relaxed, everyone wears pajamas or onsies (3 of us girls have matching penguin pajama bottoms!) we give the kids involved their presents and just generally chill before the madness of the rest of the week.
I love our monthly quiz nights and although we’ve already had it, I do look forward to the Christmas Quiz. Everyone dresses up or wears Christmas Jumpers and there’s food and Christmas themed questions. It’s such a lovely festve atmosphere.
Being an avid quizzer, another thing I love about Christmas is the fact everyone is suddenly so keen on playing board games. Whether it’s scrabble, pub quiz, the logo game, cluedo – I’m there. The only thing I’m not keen on is Monopoly!
What Is the Best Christmas Present You Ever Received?
Ahh I’m so lucky to always get so many lovely gifts it’s really hard to pick something! I was really touched a few years ago when my Mother and Father in Law bought me a huge bottle of my favorite perfume – being so money conscious it’s not something I would usually buy for myself and I was genuinely surprised at such a lovely thoughtful gift.
Most Memorable Christmas Memory?
I think I’m really lucky to have always had really nice Christmas’s – so nothing major stands out either way. I have memories of dancing the night away in the local night club with my best friends, being hungover Christmas morning, my little brothers face when he got his first Xbox, the year we had Christmas lunch in a lovely pub and a shelf fell on someones head and knocked them out!
What Made You Realise the Truth About Santa?
When I no longer got a stocking from him. It was when I moved out of my parents house, two years ago aged 28 😉 My brother is 17 years younger than me so Mum decided to keep it up so he wouldn’t ask why he got one and I didn’t. . . she has finally stopped now though!
What Makes the Holidays Special for You?
Spending time with family and friends. This year is going to be a lovely one for us – it’s the first Christmas in seven years neither my husband or myself will be working in hospitality and it’s been lovely being able to plan what we’re doing and not have worry about squeezing everything in between shifts at work. Don’t get me wrong, I fully appreciate what those who do work sacrifice – my Dad works for the NHS and works alternate Christmas Days – but I also feel that over the years we have missed so much precious time with family and friends that we’ll never get back.
This year is also our last Christmas as just a two – this time next year we’ll have a little one crawling around who we’ll be making a whole host of new traditions with.
Thanks for reading my Christmas Tag – What I love Most about Christmas.
I nominate three of my lovely blogging friends to do the same post!
