I turn 30 at the end of this month – here’s what I hope to achieve in my 30th year
The big three zero birthday is fast approaching and as always at times like these I find myself looking to the future and what I want to achieve, both personally and professionally. I also plan to celebrate in style with a fancy meal out with my best friends (they’ve organized it and it’s driving me nuts not knowing where we’re going!) followed by a BBQ and Quiz night with all my friends and family in the evening. This will all actually take place the day before my Birthday as I didn’t want to take my actual Birthday off of work. It’s a bank holiday Monday and the last day off one of my colleagues will get before she covers me for two weeks while I’m on holiday in Florida. Here’s what I hope to achieve in my 30th year.
Since getting back from our honeymoon at the end of January I feel like I’ve really got into the rhythm of blogging regularly and hopefully this month I will be able to increase my weekly posts from two to three. I still struggle quite a bit with the technical side of things but I think I am slowly getting better at it. I have challenged myself to double my blog views this month – they have been growing steadily with each month an improvement on the last but they are still not where I would like them to be.
I think also need to try and curb feeling so anxious about blogging. I really enjoy it but I also worry about it far too much. I can also be a bit shy and scared to ask for help when I need it – I’ve met so many lovely people through blogging who I know would be happy to help if I needed it.
There are going to be some big changes in in my personal life in the next year or so as we really hope to be able to start a family. I really wanted to be settled – with a house and feeling reasonably financially secure when we did this and I finally feel like we are there. However, this does mean I need to give some serious consideration my career as a chef. I love my job but there is no way I can continue working the hours I currently do with a young family. That’s where blogging comes in and I’m hoping I can find a balance between the two that will provide me with the income I need.
I think that now is a good as time as any to start a bucket list. Either an overall one or one to do in my first year of being 30. I’m actually ticking off a pretty big one not long after my 30th Birthday as we’re off to Disney world in Florida – somewhere I’ve always wanted to go. There are also other bits that come to mind – I feel like I’ve barely travelled and would love to see more of Europe – in particular I’d like to visit the German Christmas Markets and visit Dubrovnik – we’re massive game of thrones fans in our house!
Looking to the future with our finances paying off more of our mortgage is something I’d really like to do in the hope we can get it paid off early. The aim is to be mortgage free in around 10 years time which should save us around £25k in interest. At the moment we have quite a bit in savings but taking a huge chunk out of that to pay down our mortgage does seem a bit scary! I think we’ll continue to grow our savings then start paying a few thousand off here and there so our savings never drop below a certain point.
I honestly don’t feel sad or negative about turning 30 – I’m really excited to see what the future holds and what I can achieve in my 30th year!
